hahaha and at the end of the day, darrell abbott fucking ruled on guitar. and im not impressed by *anything*

It's not that he wasn't a good guitarist, it's that you think Mustaine was overrated which makes your entire argument bunk.

And you're not impressed by anything? Well, excuse me while I whip this out...

@jaykeeley: hahaha

re: mustaine. i said he was overrated now. back in the day he was awesome. he's a parody of himself now. every album since the mid 90s has sucked hard.

i am not a musician ... but as a listener ... i like Dimebag for the chunk and tone and memorable riffs ...

and Mustaine ... for ... hmmm ... for better all around songs.

@jaykeeley: i dunno. rust in peace was obviously the greatest album of all time but the mind-blowing solos were all friedman, man. as geeky as he was, he owned. yet, dave obviously wrote the kickass songs and is thusly awesome in that regard.
now, pantera had some great songs, but not quite on par with megadeth. yet, pantera was more consistent with their good songs than deth was. the majority of deth's albums are quite bad. whereas, pantera was consistently good, with a few great ones thrown in. cemetery gates is up there with tornado of souls. so i dunno. maybe overall it's a tie. both great guitarists with annoying off-stage personalities.

Interesting. Every time I hear supporting arguments for Pantera I keep going back to revist and I keep not hearing what "y'all" are hearing.

By the way, Mustaine was a phenomenal lead player. Very underrated and actually complemented Friedman's style with that whole 'angry violence' vs 'exotic melody' going back and forth...just look at Hangar 18.

If you just want to hear what the big shit is about Dime's skill, I'd gladly make you a compilation. I remember when I showed you that outro solo to Floods you were impressed. :goggly:

If you want to hear why some love Pantera... listen to Cowboys and Vulgar Display, because I don't think you'd like their other shit.

YES. :kickass:

As far as raw talent goes, I'd definitely put Dime and Mustaine in the same league. In their prime they were the types of players that made impossible shit seem easy and fluid. Much respect to both those fucks in that regard.

Good call, that's probably their biggest 80's metal song right there. Other than the hotpants wearing days of course.

i know why you don't like Pantera Ali ... it has that polished mechanical perfect sound you hate ...

That's the most of it, yeah. I tried some Nevermore again the other day, Dreaming Neon Black....ay carumba. (Although that's mostly down to the vocals).

That said, I really like the sound of Decapitated's "Nihility". Dunno why, somehow they've managed to capture a very industrial yet rusty atmosphere...

This has GOT to be Zod's cup of tea for sure. He likes Nevermore, Lamb of God, Trivium, Godsmack, (I have to believe he likes Fear Factory and Machine Head).....and yet he hates Slayer.
Love Nevermore, love Lamb of God's latest, think Trivium's lastest is solid, Godsmack's music is hit and miss with me, dislike both Fear Factory and Machine Head and hate Slayer. Pantera was a good band. Nothing more, nothing less. Their importance and quality has been greatly exagerated with Dimebag's passing. Dimebag was a good guitar player. Would I put him up there with Romeo, Loomis, etc.? No.

I guess the Bay Area scene was just too 'European'?
I loved early Metallica.
