Oh, and so far, every report that I've seen from people that played the Wii at E3 has been nothing but praise about how intuitive the controller is and how well it works with games such as Mario and Zelda. And let's be honest...are there better games than Zelda and Mario? And Nintendo is saying that this is the BEST Zelda game they have ever made, and with people claiming that the experience on the Wii is much more exciting than the experience on the Gamecube version of Zelda, why would you want anything else?

Detox Clinic Opening for Video Addicts

An addiction center is opening Europe's first detox clinic for game addicts, offering in-house treatment for people who can't leave their joysticks alone.
Video games may look innocent, but they can be as addictive as gambling or drugs _ and just as hard to kick, says Keith Bakker, director of Amsterdam-based Smith & Jones Addiction Consultants.
Bakker already has treated 20 video game addicts, aged 13 to 30, since January. Some show withdrawal symptoms, such as shaking and sweating, when they look at a computer.
His detox program begins in July. It will run four to eight weeks, including discussions with therapists and efforts to build patients' interests in alternative activities.
"We have kids who don't know how to communicate with people face-to- face because they've spent the last three years talking to somebody in Korea through a computer," Bakker said. "Their social network has completely disappeared."
It can start with a Game Boy, perhaps given by parents hoping to keep their children occupied but away from the television. From there it can progress to multilevel games that aren't made to be won.
Bakker said he has seen signs of addiction in children as young as 8.
Hyke van der Heijden, 28, a graduate of the Amsterdam program, started playing video games 20 years ago. By the time he was in college he was gaming about 14 hours a day and using drugs to play longer.
"For me, one joint would never be enough, or five minutes of gaming would never be enough," he said. "I would just keep going until I crashed out."
Van der Heijden first went to Smith & Jones for drug addiction in October 2005, but realized the gaming was the real problem. Since undergoing treatment, he has distanced himself from his smoking and gaming friends. He says he has been drug- and game-free for eight months.
Like other addicts, Bakker said, gamers are often trying to escape personal problems. When they play, their brains produce endorphins, giving them a high similar to that experienced by gamblers or drug addicts. Gamers' responses to questions even mirror those of alcoholics and gamblers when asked about use.
"Many of these kids believe that when they sit down, they're going to play two games and then do their homework," he said.
However, unlike other addicts, most gamers received their first game from their parents. "Because it's so new, parents don't see that this is something that can be dangerous," Bakker said.
Tim, a gamer who is currently under treatment, agreed to discuss his addiction on condition of his last name not being used. He said he began playing video games three years ago at age 18. Soon he wouldn't leave his room for dinner. Later, he began taking drugs to stay awake and play longer. Finally he sought help and picked up other hobbies to occupy his time.
Symptoms of addiction are easy to spot, Bakker says. Parents should take notice if a child neglects usual activities, spends several hours at a time with the computer and has no social life.
Bakker said parents of game addicts frequently echo the words of partners of cocaine addicts: "'I knew something was wrong, but I didn't know what it was.'"

Hahaha. I haven't played a video game in months. I just really enjoy talking about them for some reason. It's weird. Actually, I'd go as far as to say that I enjoy hearing about games a little more than actually playing them. They always sound far more exciting than they actually are.

I went with the Wii. I've been a whore for Nintendo since I was a kid with the NES and then SNES, I bought an N64 and still play it, as well as the GameCube. I just think the Wii looks very dynamic, very multi-dimensional in its approach to everything...looks exciting and fun, which is what games are supposed to be!
I've never had as much fun as I did with Mario 3 on NES, or Double Dragons (which OWNED) on the newer generation consoles (select N64 games excluded) and I just happen to think the Wii might bring back some of the fun and excitement of gaming in a quirky and interesting way, which is something the mass-market consoles like the 360 and PS3 won't do.

I feel the same way. Those old school games were fun as hell to play. Hell, I still play them even today. There's way too much hipe put on polygon count, resolution, and frame rates these days. What happend to putting the focus on GAME DESIGN! ...everything else should come second. ...always. That's why I'm so excited about the Wii. I firmly believe that people are going to start realizing that this is what needs to happen to have fun games (something that Nintendo has never strayed from).

People are amazed by the whole remote control sensor thing, i really dont give a shit, my arms are gonna get tired after the first 25 minutes. Plus I have a feeling the whole point and aim thing isnt going to work as perfectly as they are making it look at E3 with people who know how to use it right... little kids are gonna fuck up and give up after 5 minutes when they get bored. The graphics are lame and old, I havent heard anything about HD or surround sound capabilities, i havent heard anything about hard drive storage or broadband usage, havent heard about any online game play... then again i havent read much about it.
I went with the Wii because
a) I've bought every nintendo system because they rule
b) They have always made more interesting games in my eyes
c) I dont enjoy many of the games championed by x-box and playstation (i.e. racing games, tactical shooters, etc)
d) they've never been as big on the "console race" thus have produced better quality games and systems with less buggy nonsense

so i researched the Wii a little. and on the nintendo website they have videos of the games and such, and people playing them. the dude playing metroid was like... fucking rolling around and hiding behind couches and shit. to be honest, i hope you don't have to do that sort of shit. because i know damn well i'd just get shot and die before i get caught rolling around my room like a jackass.
i don't share this love that everyone has for nintendo. yeah, i like the original machine. and hell, even SNES even though i didn't own it. i didn't like N64... and i guess since then, I just haven't like Nintendo systems/games. I don't like the new Mario games. They don't have very strong titles that are exclusive to that system. They get all the damn Star Wars games, but I could careless about that. not my thing. I'd much rather play PS2 or XBox. They have games that attract me much more than anything Nintendo has put out in years.

lol, i cant even hold the guncon for the ps2 for more than 20 minutes before my arms get tired of aiming at the screen constantly.
