"Why does Master's Apprentice sound like a Morbid Angel song?"

Anyone know what song this question is referencing? I just got another album by them (and a Katatonia one!), and am really enjoying them so far, so, curious which one this is talking about.

I've just begun listening to Morbid Angel and this is the core of the Death Metal parts in Opeth's music.

oh and the song the first Masters Apprentice riff comes from is called Rapture.

there isnt a single riff in there that sounds like MA

surely you jest.

Take out all the open E power chords in MA and its the almost same riff slowed down.
he also said on this forum that some of the melodies in SPD are from morbid angel songs.

its not hugely noticeable. its such a common group of notes within metal, you pretty much hear it all the time.

no, the similarities in metal are all the bands that rip off the E minor to C major chord progression and steal that gothenburg sound. MA is too similar to discredit the Rapture influence. besides mike often sights morbid angel as one of his biggest death metal influences.

I can sorta see it in both those songs now you've pointed them out, thanks guys! I guess after reading that FAQ then listening to Morbid Angel I sorta expected to hear practically the exact same riff pop out at me.
