Opeth - Orchid

Yo. I just recently picked up Opeth's 1st release Orchid.
I must say, I was quite surprised with this album. I see know how they have progressed with their very original and lonesome style. I love this release, and i have plans on gettin my mits on the other 2 releases, Morningrise and MAYH.
I would give this album a 8/10

Ditto buddy. Morningrise is the best of their first style, and MAYH is their most cohesive, well-composed album (a song actually feels like a song, and not a jam session most of the time). Orchid was my favorite for a while though (that happened whenever i got a new opeth cd until BWP).

Orhid is their best IMO....Next I'd say is Morningrise.

I don't know which is their best, I think that of whichever one I happen to be listening to, but Orchid is definately in the top 3 shortlist.

Yes Orchid is great but MAYH does flow like no other Opeth album.Listening to it as I type.
As for Morningrisre, mmm I just prefer the later albums and obviously Orchid.

Black Water Park is their best imo although morning rse has some amazing songs (black rose immortal and Advent)

Orchid is excellent and very metal, some great solo's to be found on there. Morningrise is the most acoustic album prior to damnation and amazing. My other fave's are Stilllife and Black Water Park.

Orchid is all about those maidenesque twists in the riffing department.
Thats why so many people like it. Its classic heavy metal done deathly.
And no I don't think it sounds like Iron Maiden. But hey there might be an influence.
