opeth tracks that really grow on you

Yeah...right. Morningrise, but what's this? You don't like the "wordy" titles in Orchid, Tyrant? Silly cliche?

In Mist She Was Standing (Ever notice how wordy some of the titles in Orchid are? Im glad they strayed from that silly cliche.)

You've injured my opinionated mind for a moment.

OK. I'm over it. I think it's cool actually. Would you have rather it be called She-Mist...named after She-ra? (Lina might like that one! ;)) I like the wordy titles because of the way they sound. :err:

Nope. That didn't help. Do you really need help? I think not. Sorry for the interruption. "We now return you to your regular scheduled programming."

WORDY TITLES RULE! :heh:

Oh, sorry...tracks that have grown on my like a fungus...slowing creeping their ways into my heart and terminally infecting my soul:

Nectar :o Crazy, huh?! It finally clicked. ;)

Moonlapse Vertigo <--this sort of surprised me. It was the first song I could hear from the new album (online) before it was released. Sometimes that first song sticks with ya. It's truly amazing though.

"My presence blackens their pattern.
A pock in the healthy and calm."

I'm surprised that few people LOVE the title track of BWP. It was immediately one of my favorites and still is. The last 4 minutes of it are among my top 20 minutes of all Opeth songs.

As for the question, I remember I didn't like Morningrise much at first because it has several dissonant parts -- which I now think is the stupidest thing ever. Night and the Silent Water is currently my favorite on that album. I'm still waiting to like Orchid though.

Couldn't agree more... everything after "...still far from the knell" is incredibly great (especially the riff that kicks in right after that line).

in a jealous panic, i grabbed that cd and fast-forwarded to that part so that i could join the fun! and now i'm covered in goosebumps. man, that gets me every time.

Blackwater Park was my favorite from the album right away mainly by it's opening...and the quieter part after.

I'll go one step further - I seem to be one of the few who think Blackwater Park is Opeth's best to date. It took me no time to fall in love with The Funeral Portrait, The Drapery Falls (now my favorite), Blackwater Park, and Bleak. These were INSTANT classics to me. I now love the album in its entirety.

There are some songs on other albums that instantly hit home (Demon of the Fall), but it has taken time for the other albums and many of the songs to grow on me. It has taken me at least 2 listens for songs on other albums for me to fall to Opeth's glory. Is it because BWP was my 1st Opeth experience that makes it my favorite? I don't think so - I find the overall production and the feeling of the album deeper than the others. [IMO]

When i learnt the story to Still Life every song had huge new depth and so much more to discover
it was only then that i started to love Serenity Painted Death.

In terms of opeth tracks that have grown on me...the 2 that come to mind right now would be Moonlapse Vertigo from SL...how it kind of peaks at that quite acoustic guitar twist in the centre...than powers again...before coming to a harrowing clean vocal section at the end...really moving stuff.

Secondly, there is When from MAYH, this song has really grown on me over time. I especially love the harrowing vocals at the end of this which make me all glassy eyed...

"When do we scream instead of whisper?" marvellous stuff.

this is the specific part in the specific song that made me first like opeth. *sigh* great memories!

Credence and Benighted have really grown on me. At first I didn't like them at all, but now I could put the whole album in player just to get to listen to them. One song, which is still on its way to grow on me is Face of Melinda. I find the first minutes very boring. =(
