A local band I've recorded.

Please give me any suggestions that you have!

The band wasn't happy with the vocal performance, and they're coming back soon to redo them all. So for now I'm mixing the thing with no vocals.

Also, they did not want to quad track guitars, and they were adamant about the tone they wanted to use, so I've got one performance per side with a single 57 and too much gain.

I'll comment on it, although I'm sure many here will disagree with me. I think it's a great mix, as is. Personally, I think the guitar sound works great for this. This is all just subjective, and my personal tastes...but if I'm only double tracking (or single tracking two guitarists), I prefer higher gain than when quad tracking. Maybe because I'm a child of 80's metal.

Anyway, I think it's a great mix and can't really find anything serious to pick at. :)

Thanks. It's not really the guitar sound I wanted to get, so I was second guessing myself as to whether or not what I had was really working.

I appreciate the feedback.

I like the mix overall, the guitars sound good and not as fizzy as most overgained stuff does.

The bass almost seems to have a bit much high end to it, I wanted to hear more low end to help fill things out, but that's entirely a personal preference :-) That's pretty much the only thing I could possibly think of to pick at after listening a few times :-)

The snappy high end on the bass whas something the band wanted, but you may be right about the low end. I probably cut too much trying to keep things clear. I always fight with that.

I think it sounds really good. Everything sounds clear. I like the guitar tone. Sounds really saturated. What pickups were used for this?

yea i have the same problem on the low end stuff. This mix definitely needs a little more low end beef though.....

Good mix though and my only other complaint would be the bass also. But thats what they want then thats what the get.

Right side is a Schecter with EMG actives, the 707 I think. It was the 7 string Loomis model. The left side is a BC Rich Eagle with the stock BC Rich pickups.

I used a MXR Wylde overdrive for a clean boost with the BC Rich, but not with the Schecter.

Thanks for listening
