I am currently looking for a new condenser microphone for vocal recordings and I was wondering what everyones reccomendations would be? I am on a poor mans budget and am looking for something in the $100-$150 range. I am being lazy and probably should have read through the previous threads but am just going to ask anyways.

Kinda limited on 'decent' choices in that price range. I'd say AT2020 or AT2035, or Studio Projects B3

I can wait, I always think I need to spend money when I have the extra cash to do so haha. What would you recommend for a more expensive condenser? I am just starting off and want something that will not cause me pain at a good price.

I'd wait at least until you can get into the AT 40 series. That would also put you in a position to look at the broadcast dynamics like the SM7 and the less heralded (here) RE20.
The problem with cheap LDC's is that they are almost universally bright but quite harsh in the high end.

Thanks a lot. The AT 40 series is probably what I'll go with. they seem to be rather popular and trustworthy after I did some quick research on them.

Edit: I actually did a little more browsing around and was wondering if you knew the differences between the Shure sm7 and sm27?

Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I just realized the sm7 is a large diaphragm dynamic mic and the sm27 is a condenser.

i'm currently using an AT4033a, but thats out of your price range,

the lowest i'd spend/the mic i'd get on a budget would be the SE2200a, anything cheaper i've had/tried just doesn't sound as good, the NT1a is very top endy, and can be too harsh on alot of sources

I was just thinking about going with the Shure sm7b it's a dynamic mic but it seems it will be perfect for my personal use. I have never recorded vocals before and will just be starting out recording screaming even though I should probably learn how to record actual singing first.
