Opium (synthetic remix)

Defiance

I vårens ljusa kvällar
I just wanted to say how much I love this song. This is one of those that gives me shivers, one that is so pure/good/composed in such a perfect way that it makes me cry when I hear it. Such passion!

Opium

Lost in the haze so far away how can we get back home
lost in the haze so far away who's going to guide us home

I've struggled to get near it to backwards engineer it
but all i find is a smoke and mirror game
the recondite monopolise the airwaves
till all believe there is no other way

and this is how we live our lives our opium is televised
till finally they watch us fade away

our lifeless generation is going to the wall
a languid demonstration of daze before a fall
a preconceived condition imagined long ago
but will we ever know all that lies below

they'll print it on the front page to synthesise an outrage
but all we find is a decoy once again
duplicity and trickery surround us
till all believe there is no other way

and this is how we fall asleep their opium is running deep
till finally they watch us fade away

our lifeless generation is going to the wall
a languid demonstration of daze before a fall
a preconceived condition imagined long ago
but will we ever know all that lies below

waiting to play are we the pawns in this game
paving the way watching the kings make their claim
martyrs and spies although we don't realise
falling away under the watch of their eyes

this is the way we've chosen to be
this is the road that we go down
as clear as the day but still we don't see
we'll only know when it's over

lost in the haze so far away how can we get back home
lost in the haze so far away who's going to guide us home

and this is how our nation died our opium has satisfied
and finally they watch us fade away

our lifeless generation is going to the wall
a languid demonstration of daze before a fall
a preconceived condition imagined long ago
but will we ever know all that lies below

:worship:

Thank you for making such a great song!

Passion is what drives the music of Threshold. Passion is what you hear in the guitar solos of Karl Groom.

Passion is what you hear in this track DESPITE there not being a Karl Groom solo though. I think you missed the point there a little, FG. ;)

This thread is a PRAISE for the Opium synthetic remix... and I so whole-heartedly agree to Defiance (and thank you for bringing this up) that this is a most outstanding, unique masterpiece.
It makes me wanna cry with sheer joy over such beauty and perfection in music, too, and that even after having listened to it hundreds of times.

So who else would sign the petition for a WHOLE album of such remixes?

No - I like the variety that the extra discs offer rather than a whole disc of one type.

I personally prefer the reworked Paradox version over the Opium one but they and their relatives are all great

Even though there are technically no guitar solos here, I get and agree with your point :p .

Yes, it is such an exceptional song!

I would sign a petition of that kind, I would really love a CD like that. It'd be nice to have that whilst we wait for the next album :) .

So what if it's away from the band's normal style? That's the whole point. It's not as if they're doing it all the time - after eight studio albums a remix disc is long overdue, particularly since Richard obviously has a natural flair for it. I would physically worship a CD like that.

I also really really adore the Opium synthetix remix! Reminds me to try to get my hands on other stuff Richard is involved with... This song is better than anything Depeche Mode ever have done - and I like that band.

Cheers to more Opium! :kickass:

Of course I have! I'm an oldie...so I liked Lizzy when I was young. Nowadays I think they're/were too soft. :loco:

Have you heard it with John Norum, the guitarrist of Europe?? That's actually even better!
