Hey, I recently upgraded to a new mac so I can finally run some CPU intensive plug-ins. I'm looking for an orchestral + piano plug-ins that works well in Logic, Mountain Lion, 64 bit, 48Khz recording. I'd like to keep my budget around €200-250.

This would be the kind of music I'd be looking to make:

IK multimedia have a sale on their Total Studio bundle which comes with Miroslav Philharmonik and Sampletank 2.5 + All expansions. Would anyone recommend this? I've heard its quite buggy when run in 48hz since Sampletank is very outdated and hasn't had a patch in a longtime. It does come with a ton of additional patches for bass, piano, drums etc

Another one was Garritan Instant Orchestra:

or Garritan Personal Orchestra 4:

I was looking at Komplete 9 aswell but its quite costly and full of a ton of plug-ins I don't need or want.

Firstly, I fucking LOVE Two Steps From Hell.

You could check out the East West stuff. I got Symphonic Orchestra Silver quite cheap when they had their sale on and used it for this:

I think Hollywood Strings sounds better, but it's more expensive and then you're having to grab other plugins for brass, percussion etc. So Symphonic Orchestra seems a good one to start off with I think.

I bought the complete composers collection from East West last Fall. It's absolutely amazing. I bought a midi keyboard as well, and it's just so amazing to me how well the sounds naturally adapt to the way you play. Velocity's, and feel are so well done. Very inspiring. I can't recommend enough.

Firstly the sound on the clip you liked has that hollywood movie vibe going on, so it is worth checking out Project Sam essentials, it's a scaled down version of the big library, I own Symphobia 1-2 and whilst not to everyone's taste it does the whole movie thing very well. Forgot to mention it runs well in Logic using kontakt player, there are lots of other demo's of essentials on their youtube page.

EastWest just released the budget versions of Hollywood Strings/Brass for $199 each. They are the only EW samples I've ever liked, but they are fucking amazing indeed.

For pianos, anything by Imperfect Samples is pure gold. I recently got to play with the 'extreme' version of their Fazioli piano samples, and it's far and away the best piano library I've EVER heard.

If you want to spend a bit more money, VSL is obviously a very safe bet. Spitfire Audio make amazing mid-budget products, including a very nice grand piano for under $100 that blends beautifully with their other orchestral libraries.
