We are glad to offer you ORPHANED LAND once more, the band was one of the big surprises back in 2005. Unfortunately Heaven's Cry had to cancel their upcoming European trip, but with ORPHANED LAND we are sure to offer a decent replacement. And the band will not do any other show around PP Europe, so be sure not to miss them!

Awesome to see Orphaned Land back in Town! Great band! I think this is one of the better replacements available. Very glad with the choice PP EU did!!

No...but after witnessing their performance at PPUSA VI...l wasn't impressed. I would think a band like Labyrinth who have a new release & a history of great material would do well.
No matter what band we've booked in the past 9 years, there are always people complaining. It's simply a matter of personal taste, availability and money. It's impossible to please everyone.

As said, Orphaned Land was a big surprise in 2005. Based on the reactions so far, a lot of our visitors seem to be happy with their return. Besides that, the band immediately wanted to play.. which we appreciate a lot.

Well, Labyrinth has absolutely no fanbase at all in The Netherlands, so they are no option for us. And it is always difficult to make everyone happy, Oprhaned Land, gave a splendid performance in 2005 at ProgPower Europe, we did not ask them back without a reason.

No fanbase in the Netherlands? PP Europe? I think Italy is in Europe. Maybe PP Europe has a more limited fanbase than I was thinking...my fault.

I guess that argument could be used for some of the other bands on the line up...Meyvn from the USA for example. Are prog/power fans just going crazy over Meyvn with only one mediocre release and not fans of a classic prog/power metal band like Labyrinth with a history of good material like Return to Heaven Denied? RtHD is a fairly revered release in alot of circles. Of course, l have only mentioned Labyrinth (mainly because of their new release which is good)...there are other bands l could use as an example.

For your information, Europe isn't one country. In Italy, powermetal is quite popular. In the Netherlands, it isn't. We've always been more a prog-orientated festival/country.

Again, the fact that you don't like Orphaned Land or Meyvn (who got excellent reviews over here) is your personal opinion. A lot of our visitors asked for Orphaned Land and are happy to see them return. As far as I know, Labyrinth wasn't mentioned by anyone (with all respect to the band).

Like I said, you can't book the perfect line up. Even if we'd book Dream Theater, Symphony X, Fates Warning and Queensryche altogether... there'd still be people complaining. If you ask 1000 people for their perfect line up, you will get 1000 different festivals..

Exactly what l was saying. Europe is not one country. Italy is a part of Europe & your fest represents Europe. But, Rene mentioned there was no fanbase for Labyrinth in the Netherlands...which seems to me that he is saying PP Europe only represents the Netherlands. And, that may be where l am mistaken...thinking that PP Europe's fanbase is bigger than it is, when in actuality it is comprised mainly of people from the Netherlands and not from the larger area of Europe. Of course, you know your fanbase & naturally want to cater to them.
Also, if you haven't listened to the Freeman cd by Labyrinth...you are missing some very good prog material...hardly any power influence at all. But, even their more power metal material is still prog oriented.

Well, fact is that Labyrinth is definitely a band that is on our list, but they are not a co-headliner because hardly anyone will only come to PP Europe for Labyrinth. That is why we booked Orphaned Land for an exclusive gig.

Why am I always giving an explanation of what band we book and why..........

Rene

For what it's worth, I think that Labyrinth are very boring power metal, and I'm glad you invited an actually PROGRESSIVE band.

Then again, there's no replacing Heaven's Cry. It's a real shame they can't come.

What's going on with DVS?

Actually, it's a good thing. It gives everybody a little more insight as to why bands were chosen & how you put your fest together. I, for one, appreciate it.

Boring? Don't get out much do you?

Orphaned Land progressive? l guess...of course you have to take in consideration the death metal that seems to overwhelm what they do. If that's what you call progressive...hmm ok.

I agree on the loss of Heaven's Cry. Maybe next year.

What are you saying? That they are too death and so can't be prog? They do INTERESTING stuff, unexpected stuff, using fresh melodies and harmonies. Personally, that's why I listen to prog. I don't mind the death; I LIKE it. It creates a wider spectrum of music they can make.

As for Labyrinth, I've heard the exact same music a million times before, and there was a time when I was much younger and would have liked simple stuff like that, but I've grown very bored of it.

Well, as you can see.. to each his own.

I hope people understand it's impossible to satisfy everyone at all times. We always listen to our visitors and take their wish-lists very serious. After all, it's their party. Without them, no ProgPower.

Therefore, I don't mind people asking us questions about the line up. But saying things like "Were there no better bands to choose from" is a bit annoying at times. I hope you understand..

I'm excited to see Orphaned Land since everyone from PP2005 was psyched about the show, but this is one Canuck who is terribly sad that Heaven's Cry won't be attending (and that they're having problems to begin with!) :(

It's not correct that Orphaned Land does not play any show close to Baarlo. A few days ago, they played at Dong Open Air in Neukirchen-Vluyn, Germany, only a bit more than 40 km east of Baarlo. I have seen them there and they are a good replacement for Heaven's Cry.
