OT: anyone a fan of living colour?

i love their first 3 albums (vivid, times up and stain) but whats everyones opinion on the newest album (2003's collideoscope)? i heard it was really bad. i've heard 2 tracks from the album and liked them but these could have been the only 2 good tracks

I think they were great. In my opinion, "Vivid" is a masterpiece. Every song in that album is superb. Since legendary "Cult of personality" riff to "Which way to America?".

"Time´s up" and "Stain" are far from "Vivid" but very good with amazing tunes like "Information overload", "Elvis is dead", "Ignorance is bliss",...

However "Collideoscope" is absolutely disappointed. Boring and average album.

If you'd heard the solo albums from the members of Living Colour prior to Collide0scope, it would make more sense. Either way, I agree: it doesn't match the songwriting of the first three albums.

b) I put it OT because to me Living Colour is not metal in the traditional sense so it doesn't qualify for a normal thread at UMOS
c) Who cares if it has an OT or not as long as the thread is for everyone to see and answer? (like the Sigur Ros one).

Vivid is still one of my all time fav albums. They wrote some killer songs for that one. After that I never felt they never quite regained the magic for a whole album.

I found a cool DVD performance of them, excellent video and audio, although they don't seem as energetic as I remember seeing them live back in the late 80s. But then again, I'm not as energetic now either!

I like Living Colour and was always a fan of the guitarist... I thought he was underrated...

I always thought the guitarist (Vernon Reid was it ?) had a very unique style about him. I think he may have grew up with some funk music. I hear it more incorporated in his style more than say.... blues, Jazz or R&B.

As far as "black" metal. There is always Straight Line Stitch."

Their frontman is actually a frontwoman and is black, so she fills two minority roles in metal. Much of her vocals use the extreme style which is not my thing, but she uses clean vox as well. She is very good at what she does.

Stick with those three. Collideoscope was fucking horrible.
