OT: I don't even know what to say about this.

Man, it's the same old shit again (just like on the Van Halen thread some time ago).

I want to see anyone here achieve the success of even the least successful of that group ... so put your money where your mouth is cause what else have you got to show for yourself?

Agreed, but that photo still sucks. The guy in the lower middle looks like he just took some off the chin.

I never said the photo was any good, haha ...

I think it's all a matter of wording yourself. Maybe I am just getting old, but I am so tired of everyone being "gay" while everyone else "owns all" ...

(Actually from my experience with gay people, the world would be a much nicer place if everyone was - in fact - gay ...)

It's obvious we disagree on this so let's just leave it to one side.

Just so you know, in my ethnomusicology classes "Pop" was clearly defined as a genre of music and the term "Pop Idol"* refers to the slew of manufactured bands who are formed through reality television shows

*The term being taken from the first show of it's kind, like the term "Hoover" being widely used to describe a vacuum cleaner when in fact it is a brand name.

Pop = Popular culture, popular culture is not a genre. Also calling me stupid for not thinking of music as a business is pretty ignorant. Music means alot of different things to alot of different people and is a part of peoples lives for alot of different reasons. Don't ever call me stupid for not profiting from music, my LIFE.

If music is your "life", then you'll have to make money doing it eventually - or it won't be your life.

I give that guy a year and and they'll be back on again next year looking for another singer  ...or break up.

Yeah, when you're young, you do it for the love of it and that probably will never change but when it comes to record labels, especially the big ones, it's all about the money. They have a business to run and cash to make. Lots and lots and lots of cash, and the last thing thay want to do is lose money, hence the term "music business". I'm sure you already know this but this seems to be what everyone is getting at. If you have no intention in getting into the music business then that's fine, more power to you.

This is why I hate this life.:bah: I wish we all could be signed to a label and at least be able to live somewhat comfortably. We're born into this world with or at some point discover our life's passion and have dreams only to eventually be crushed and shattered. :waah:

Oh yeah, I've got issues!

Wrong actually, music can still be my main focus even when working a mundane 9-5 job. Music is my life and will continue to be my life. Don't question it.

I'm in the same boat right now (although my job is actually cool.) However, I'm working on configuring my life in such a way that I can equal or surpass my (tech industry job) income while focusing on music primarily. Monetizing intellectual property in the era of massively multiplayer file transfer is definitely "interesting," but I have a hunch that I have some forward-looking ideas of how to surmount this challenge.

Shit like this, is what makes my FUCKING BLOOD BOIL!!! Fuck all these fucks!! What the fuck is Jason Newsted thinking! He has lowered his fucking standards way too fucking low! He has no fucking balls left! People acting like this make me write and play even heavier, angrier riffs! Fuck that whole pop society! Total fucking inspiration!:heh:

I've read an interview with Gilby Clarke on guitar world mag, it seems to be some kinda velvet revolver thing.
Honestly, I can enjoy their music, I'm not a strictly metal guy, I enjoy really different kinds of music, pop included.
I'll wait for some songs and then speak about how crappy their music is, if it is.
I don't expect much anyway, it seems every new band has gotta make retro flavoured music now, so it's gonna be a "standard rock" band.
OT: the singer look like one of those kids in the audience of avenged sevenfold's gigs, so they obviously hired him for the chick, a ugly singer doesn't sell much records these days

Me three. Many moons ago when I was back in Australia, I was playing in really shitty, but somewhat popular cover bands to make ends meet. It got to the point where the last thing I wanted to do was look at my gear, let alone play it after a gig. I hated myself for doing it, but dude's gotta pay the rent somehow. After a while I got jack of it, went into IT and now make a very good living at the ol' 9-5 which is low stress and I go home every night and play or record the type of music I love for several hours, stop now and then to shag the girlfriend, then pick up the guitar again....I'd rather be doing that than playing Pearl Jam covers or recording god awful country bands.

It's extremely doubtful that I'll ever be able to make a living playing music, but my lifestyle at the mo' allows me to live, pay my rent, buy gear and cd's, and record my music.

You guys can challenge what I'm saying but mark my words - when the girlfriends turn into wives and you throw children into the picture - music will not be your life unless you're making money at it.

Managment - "Jason do want to do a film Some kind of Monster"

Jason - "Nah thats selling out and gay"

Management - "Jason do want to do a Flock of Seagulls Cover band"

Jason - "SIGN ME UP !"

Anyone actually see the show?

I say a few bits and heard them performing their new songs...real crap. It's like they took all the best bits from the respective bands, threw them out the window and made songs out of the rest.

The guy's singing style is like a gay Billy Idol. And if it turns out that BI is already gay...then add more gayness to THAT! It'll come close.
