Went and saw Opeth/Devildriver/Dark Tranquillity on Friday, and it was a pretty cool show. Opeth's setlist was as follows:

Ghost of Perdition
White Cluster
The Amen Corner
Baying of the Hounds
Closure
Under the Weeping Moon
Grand Conjuration
Drapery Falls

I was impressed with some of the oddball songs they played (Amen Corner, Under The Weeping Moon)...but one thing was brought to my attention....
Both Mikael and Peter were using some sort of Boss GT floorboard unit. I couldn't tell what they had going on in back as far as rack junk or whatever, but they were using some sort of Boss floorboard, one that was kinda silver/gold in color. I'd been led on to believe that they were basically straight into thier Laney's....so now it makes me wonder. Anyways....killer show, and thier new/fill-in? drummer was spot on! Anyone else attend that show?

Boss GT-6... they've used 'em live for a lil while now, and before that it was the GT-3 I think. I'm surprised they didn't step up to the GT-8 when it came out, but meh... if it's workin' for them.

I actually almost went to the Spokane show, but something came up last week so I couldn't make the trip that direction.

Yeah, they use the GT-6 for all distortion tones live. The Laney's are basically poweramps.

Well I guess the idea is that basically where ever they go, Laneys or not, having the Boss units with them gives them some degree of consistency in their sound, without having to lug around racks of equipment.

When they come down here, they run them through some ol' borrowed JCM800s, from memory.

Yeah, that's basically the logic. Some bands do that with modellers (Dark Tranquility uses a V-Amp live), others have rented gear that stays in the other country (Nevermore has Mesa stacks in Europe).

wow, it amazes me that they'd use them. I've heard this before too.
For a band like opeth, i thought they'd rely upon some cranked tubidge to get going!

Gt6's are great tho, ive owned one for sometime and they do put out some lush tone!

Respect to Nevermore!

I've also started noticing lately that more bands are opting for the solid state amps when they tour. Lets just hope they remember to grab that tube amp they have "lying around" when it comes time to record.
