OT: Role Playing Games

i have both Morrowind and KOTOR. KOTOR really isn't my thing....i could never be bothered to get in to it properly...the battle system (if u can call it that) is terrible. Morrowind is huge and brilliant but the amount of bugs in it began to annoy me....i disagree about japanese games being only about storyline.....yes their storylines are absolutely fantastic but i also think the gameplay is second to none....i apologise if you are struggling to comprehend that somebody may think that another country's work is better than American work.

lol KotOR had a really great battle system. Somewhat active/real-time combined with turn-based. Morrowind, on the other hand, by far had one of the worst battle systems I've ever seen in a game. The first person swinging of a sword was retardedly annoying and dull. Swing Swing Swing Swing Hit! Swing Swing Swing Swing Swing Swing Swing Hit! They tried to throw in variety by making it so if you're moving you will attack a different way. Didn't make much of a difference, espescially since your weapon, even if you see it hit the enemy, does not actually make contact due to a dice roll. It looked horribly stupid seeing two people about 2 feet apart furiously swinging at eachother back and forth with katanas, daggers, axes, and broadswords and missing everytime.

As far as best RPGs, in my order:
1. Final Fantasy 7
2. Knights of the Old Republic
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Valkyrie Profile
5. Star Ocean 2
6. Final Fantasy Tactics
7. Final Fantasy 9
8. Final Fantasy 6
9. Knights of the Old Republic 2
10. Super Mario RPG

YOU LIKE PURE TURN BASED!!!!!!!!!!!! EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

nah just kidding we all have different taste, I used to be an FF geek too.....than I realized that turn based isnt everything, i mean come on its dumb imo the thing about the random battles I mean........ehhhhh its not my thing.

nice try, but Tales of Symphonia is in no way turn based....not even 1 little bit....

oh and ps. the battles aren't random either...you can see them all and avoid them if u wish.

I usually play old D&D with my friends. We are currently playing the B10 adventure. My favourite PC games are the ones of Tex Murphy serie: Under a killing moon, Pandora Directive and Overseer! :D

Some CRPG's I've played in the past few years:

Knights Of The Old Republic - AMAZING the first time through, but didn't have any replay value for me.

Neverwinter Nights - Very good, but lacked the magic of the Baldur's Gate series

Baldur's Gate (I & II) - Best RPG's ever, no contest.

Chrono Trigger - like the FF series, not really an RPG (or rather "RPG for beginners"), but a wholly incredible game.

Icewind Dale series - quite good, lacked the special vibe of the BG series though.

Planescape: Torment - Has gotten a ton of good reviews, yet I found it the most boring game ever.

I prefer to call them "Japanese RPG's" because some of them are NOT for beginners...some console RPGs are tough as shit...I have played a tabletop RPG, and it is fun, but I do like console RPGs...it just makes them sound bad, calling them "RPGs for beginners"....

Faves are KOTOR and Neverwinter Nights for traditional style RPG. I'm wholly addicted to World of Warcraft(Maarklar[Horde] on Bronzebeard). I wish I had more time to play.

I didn't mean that the difficulty level was for beginners, I meant that they weren't really RPGs... rather, a "stepping stone" genre to actual role-playing games. Let's face it, there's no true role-playing factor in any of the FF games.

Your "true" role-playing games like Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate are just ridiculously boring. There's only so much you can do while staying 99% true to the Dungeons and Dragons rules. The battle system is just so slow and unexciting. Not to mention it's incredibly tedious having to control each and every member like that. Games like Knights of the Old Republic which somewhat use the whole dice/pen-paper type rules do it good. They actually make it fun.

That was a hilarious clip MC to the Pee. I must be naive, because I would never even imagined that people would do that kind of thing.

I think the funniest part is how non confrontational everyone is. They all just sort of lightly hit eachother. Someone also told me they saw that clip with the spells animated, but I don't know where it is.

Best CRPGs I played?

Kotor (the story is just great!)

Gothic I + II (a CRPG by a german company - it's really great, but I don't know if it ever has been translated to english)

Ultima Underworld I+II (They're a bit older now and the graphics are not up to date anymore, but they're a whole lot of fun)

But I prefer the pen and paper RPGs over the CRPGs, because you can have a completely different level of interaction and dialogue (and realism) between characters.
I mainly play Cthulhu (by Chaosium in USA or Pegasus in Germany) or the Black Eye.

oh yeah for those who says Morrowind is unbeatable, I found Dagoth Ur, but I did not beat him, anyone know how?
you cannot kill him. you instead need to use Sunder and Keening to hack at the Heart of Lothian that sustains him. then he'll die on his own. then you get the hell out via the top.
