i'm thinking of trying my hand at building a 1176 clone, or maybe buying something else.

any one got any recommendations/suggestions?

i'm quite open minded about the whole thing, but basically i want to experiment with not using so many plugins :)

thanks,

I'm in the middle of building my 1176 Clone just now. Waiting for various pieces to arrive for it. Should have it all done by next month... fingers crossed anyway.

i love building things, and the 1176 seems like it would be a lot of fun

what's it like on aggressive screaming vocals?

thanks,

It kicks ass on aggressive screaming vocals. I always have one 1176 (plugin, unfortunately) in my vocal chain.

and keep in mind that a good outboard comp makes only sense with great converters..you don't wanna run the signal through another DA and AD conversion of mediocre quality.

i have been reading a few good reviews on the ART Pro VLA II. Pretty cheap and two channels. Anyone have any experience with these?

I hear they are very transparent, which could be good or bad.

I love the LA2A on vocals, it just turns them into magic.

How difficult are those hairball kits? I've been wanting to build a couple and a GSSL but my most advanced project was an SCA N72.

I'm nearly finished my one, so far it's been like painting by numbers. I'm just coming up to the tricky part though, so I'll let you know how that goes.
