Pagan Altar WTF!!!!!

It just hit me who these dudes remind me of, it's like Donovan singing for Candlemass. That's a giant fucking win and makes me question my sexuality due to not own any Donovan albums (thankfully I have some Candlemass, and Pagan Altar will soon be mine).

Pagan Altar makes me urinate with glee and makes me want to grow a moustache, wear flared brown pants and play HEAVY FUCKING METAL with a Gibson SG through old ass tube amps all day.

Im a gay progy wank vunt (what?), but i love P.A. :(
Anyway i cant believe how much wet JayKeeley's pants will be after listening to "Lords Of Hypocrisy" .. which is like 10 times better than "Vol 1" (yet kinda different)

So something worth clarifying for "Lords of Hypocrisy" (I didn't know this until I had the originals in my hands):

"All songs on this album were written between 1978 and 1983. All tracks were originally recorded in the Pagan studio between 82-84 and re-recorded in Oracle studios in 2004 with the exception of Sentinels of Hate which was written in 1983 but never actually recorded at the time."

So even though the album came out in '04 (it would have been a top 10 contender), the material is still very authentic to the time it was written.

If anybody wants more Pagan Altar samples, let me know. I'd really like to support this band this year, I just think it would be criminal for them to go unnoticed.

With RC v2.0 on the horizon, I'll attempt to get an interview.

Armageddon has what is quite possibly the WORST mix I've ever heard in the history of music. But the song rules, so fuckit! :kickass:

Reincarnation is the hizzy, kickass.

So what album is Judgement of the Dead on? That one just floored me, these others kick ass, but not as much ass. If one album has about 40 minutes of Judgement of the Deaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad I'm so god damn sold.

Judgement of the Dead and The Black Mass (you've heard both) are from "Volume 1" which is old school satanic doom, as you can tell.

The other release, Lords of Hypocrisy, which is equally old stuff re-recorded, seems to be less heavy doom-like and more 70's proggy doom with hints of psychadelia and Floyd.

Both releases are essential. IoftheStorm seems to prefer LoH, and based on his general tastes that's no surprise, but so far I think I prefer the raw and heavy nature of Volume 1. Again though, both are worth it.

Every single, YES EVERY SINGLE, fucking person that considers themselves a metalhead NEEDS to AT LEAST own VOLUME 1.

There, I said it.

Of the 3 squillion reviews I ever wrote, only about 8 albums got a 10/10 score and this was one of them.

All this talk of PA on the HC board has got my urinary juices flowing in glee.

jay what were the other 7? (i think you have weiland in there, perhaps hammers too)

off the top of my head....August Engine, The Bastard, Weiland, Nightside Eclipse, Volume 1, Elegy...

When I reviewed Mabool, I gave it a 9 but that would score 10 now easily. I guess the one thing all those albums have in common is that they get better with each listen.

Obviously I have other 10/10's but I didn't necessarily review them, e.g. Chemical Wedding.

Spectacular live band and when we saw them they were playing totally without monitors I think! Rich Walker was the 2nd guitarist for the night, and he ruled :kickass:
