Pagan Metal

so has anyone else gotten some Geasa and Primordial.

listening to "The Calling" from Imrama right now. Beautiful...

This is one band I'd actually love to see live.

Well, after starting with Spirit the Earth Aflame, I must say, everything else doesn't truly compare. A Journey's End is really really good, but not *quite* as good as StEA, and Storm Before Calm just lacks any of that epic greatness found on the other two. I've only heard SBC once though, but on that first listen, I thought they had stripped away all creativity in favor for "run of the mill" BM elements.

THat's exactly what I thought at first. THen a few weeks later I started listening again and again, and I started to really like the album. Not as good as StEA, but still a strong album.

I have the following on the way:

Geasa - Angel's Cry
Geasa - Starside (just Starside, not the EP+Starside)

Just in from Golden Lake...

The Enchanted - For Those Who Fall

What we've got here is 'heavy traditional' meets 'death' meets 'pagan melody' (a la Solstice with those dual guitar harmonies). All the vocals are death growls with a slight hint of shout/chant (as if it were viking), and on occasion you get these interspersed blackened screams, most of which play out alongside the growls.

It's only an EP with 4 songs:

1. Where Fires Burn - full MP3: http://www.theenchanted.co.uk/mp3/The_Enchanted_-_Where_Fires_Burn.mp3
2. Way of the Warrior
3. In a Dream of Waters Deep
4. Under the Hall of the Moon

(Sorry, don't know when I'll have time to review it so I thought I'd offer some info in this post. Some of you should really like this, so listen to the MP3).

Sorry, but I'm just not picking up on that 'epic majesty' that's found on the others. Can you give me some pointers of good songs so I can focus my attention on the really good bits? Otherwise, I lose focus if I just listen to it straight through from the beginning....
