I am not here to try and disapprove of the poster that thought PM was a little off. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, but frankly I thought PM was in a class by themselves, especially considering the quality of the bands playing around them. I think they are as professional as you can get.

To me they were a class above everyone else that played progpower. Of course I'm completely biased as they're my fave band. But damn they're good live. Agree with Bryant.

Talented group. If only they wrote good songs (they have a couple)! Same problem that Jorn has. Hmm...

I thought they were great but in comparison, Circus Maximus was way way way way better...Again , its song writing, which CM is obviously way better at......

I loved both sets. CM and PM. I was watching CircusMax and thinking damn- this is the OPENER to what is going to be an incredible weekend. It was precisely that.

I like that a positive thread was started- no offense to the other thread as well, I just really enjoyed the Pagans Mind set as well. I was to the side not getting all of the sound like you otherwise would and it was still great.

On the way to PP X, my friend Craig (a PP virgin until X) was trying to convince me of how awesome Pagan's Mind was, as I'd never heard them. I was doing the same thing to him with Circus Maximus, as he'd never heard them either.

Needless to say, both of us were blown away. CM and PM both crushed, and you didn't need to be a previous fan to appreciate the awesome musicianship and melodic tour-de-force that was occuring on stage.

I bought God's Equation, and now I can't stop playing the title track, Painted Skies, United Alliance, and Evolution Exceeded. I love what we're doing with MWC lately, but, fuck, I'm so inspired by these guys right now, I just wanna go crank out our third album. ARGH, PP messes me up for months. Damn you, Glenn! (Just kidding, thank you Glenn!).

They were much better than everyone else, i agree with mel and bryant. The difference is, Jorn has yet to put out an album that is strong throughout and all of PM's albums are strong and excellent. Jorn has a good song here and there, but his albums are weak in general. Lastly, they write killer songs :)

Sorry Bear but Circus Maximus was not better than Pagan's Mind in any shape or form. Just my opinion and I do love the 2 Circus Maximus cd's but live they are one hell of a boring band.

Sorry Primal but Pagan's Mind was not better than Circus Maximus in any shape or form. Just my opinion and I do love Celestial Entrance and Enigmatic Calling, but Circus Maximus is pretty much from another fucking planet.

Man, its sort of like comparing Apples and Oranges, but I'd have to give Circus Maximus the edge for a few reasons.

Pagan's Mind played their songs fantastically, putting them above just about any band that I've ever seen. However, Circus Maximus extended their songs, mangled them (in a good way) with excerpts from other tunes. They slowed tempos in some sections and sped up in others (drastically, and to amazing effect if you've heard the studio recordings). They basically played their material not as an exciting/well-performed version of a touring band, but, as musicians in a class all of their own. It sounds funny but I've only heard that kind of playful dynamic in extremely tight jazz or fusion ensembles. With the exception of DT, I've never seen a band in the prog-genre bend from the norm (the norm being their own material) like CM did on Sunday night. Thats just my opinion, but, I became a huge FAN of Pagan's Mind that night and haven't stopped playing the cd yet.
