pc vs standalone recorders?

Im looking at 2 options for setting up a desent studio. Was thinking of something like YAMAHA AW4416 or fire interface?

What are your opinions on the standalones and can you get as good results with them.

Interface to PC. More options and more people here who can help you. Some here use standalones, but you can do more with desktops.

I'm puzzled as to how standalone recorders have any market share these days with all the great affordable options with a computer, particularly with Reaper.

Yeah, me too. I don't understand why someone would choose a standalone instead of a computer based option.

the only standalone id consider using is radar.
so yeah...
computer and interface. those all in one things suck

the yamaha standalones are pretty good..the standalone is for the guy that despises a computer...theres alot of variables in configuring a pc and sometimes you even have to trouble shoot or wait for updates from the latest mac os... a standalone like a fostez/yamaha/zoom whatever.."just works"

My bassist still prefers his adat/mixer rig over the pc....

RADAR is the ultimate (IMHO) when it comes to quality ADA converters, etc. I know a guy who uses his RADAR, and then transfers his stuff to Logic for editing. The sound is unbelievable!!
I hear people talk a lot about the quality of the Alesis HD24xr converters, too - although there are just as many people who say the HD24 is just "ok"

The reason people would choose a stand-alone (IMHO) - the reason there is still some market share in that area - is (typically) the ADA quality is better & because the system is rock solid. I have spoke to people who have not had (1) crash or lockup in the middle of a session, or just foolin' around, in their 10+ years of using - but again, I am speaking of the RADAR system. Their argument is "how many [DAW of choice] users do you know who can say they are in the same neighborhood with stability?"
