Peavey 6505 vs. Revalver 6505 vs. Axe Fx 5150

It's gotta be the same impulse for a fair test.

Bernhard and I did a 'Real 6505 vs Revalver 6505' (preamp only) test a while back through an identical impulse, and the similarity was darn-near uncanny. Most people could only tell the difference because the real amp had a higher noise floor.

If you do this test blind, and with all circumstances otherwise identical, you'll generally find there will be less hate for Revalver.

Ola: I asked if you used the ReValver impulse loader, it looks like you did in the picture. Also, any insight on the other questions I asked? (are the settings on that pic what you used?/tweak any amp internals?/if you used revalver's impulse loader did you tweak any of the low/high/dist/crunch knobs?).

I still can't get the Rev 5150 to sound right, at all, personally.

The day the Revalver demo came out (however many years ago that was), I reamped someones (can't remember whos) DI's through my REAL 6505. I then made an Impulse of that Mic position and quickly (no more than 5 mins) played around with Revalver and tried to get a similar tone with its 6505 sim.

The following file has the 6505 Sample, the Revalver Sample, the Impulse and a screenshot of the Revalver settings. I used Boogex I think as the Impulse loader not the one in Revalver. I am not saying that either tone is brilliant, but they are fairly close for 5 mins tweaking IMO.

I don't get what everyone's hate with revalver is. It was all the rage about a year ago and now all of a sudden everyone is like ohh it sounds like shit, yet podfarm has been out for far longer and still gets regular use on these forums. It's still a great sounding sim IMO, so stop hatin :D

It's all matter of taste, like for food. For some reasons, if you tell someone what he is really eating, he could say "yuk-yuk" even before eating it and the same person would love it to death if he didn't know what's in...(fuck my English is rusted to hell). Placebo effect maybe?

Soloed I like the amp and axe , both sound good , revalver sounds a little harsh to my ears . May be in a mix thing's change again ..

Nah I just used one of the pics I did for the Revalver preset collection video I did earlier.

Yes I use the Revalver Impulse loader, the only thing I really tweak If I have to is the highs on that.

i use Rev 6505 on a regular basis, along with Le456 and lecto, but thats besides the point. Rev's stock impulses are the worst. i threw spreshigh in there and it shined. sounds more natural than all the other sims i've tried with a little tweaking here and there. it blends great with the JSX and "greener" as a boost. though i find the key to my good (or what least what i would call good) guitar tones is the parallel eqing i have. makes the mids and low mids ROAR. in relativity, anywho. cant wait to get the real thing!

All three are definitely very capable. I always thought Revalver was pretty nice once you stopped using the stock impulses. The 6505, XXX and JSX sims on Revalver were all pretty usable for difference applications.
The Axe FX sounds quite decent with the stock impulses, interesting

Are the settings on the picture of ReValver what you actually used for this test? I assume you used the ReV impulse loader, if so did you change the low/high/dist/crunch settings at all? Did you change any of the amp internals? I can't get ReV to sound like that based on what I see in the pic - not a "oh you're using different guitar/pickups" different but a "it's fucking totally different sounding" so I am curious.

Still wondering if you tweaked any of the amp internals on the 5150 on ReV.
