Peavey Ultra Plus

I have the chance to get a cheeeap Peavey Ultra Plus 120w head and I'm searching some good sample recorded with this amp.
Does it sound like a new XXX or there are some differences?
Do you have some guitar clips to post?

I've had one for years, great amp, sold it after I got my Engl Savage SE. It sounds like a 5150's little sister, not so brutal on distortion but much more versatile, it actually has some sweet cleans.
Haven't tried a XXX yet, but I tell you the Ultra Plus is a good buy if it's a good deal.
I have some crappy songs recorded with that amp, the quality of the recording is so lame I doubt you could get a good idea of what it sounds like!

I found 2 Ultra plus on ebay for about 170 €!!! But they are in USA and if I buy one of them I pay more for shipping and customer office than the amp price :\
Unfortunatelly all the ultra plus I found in Europe are 650 € min.
I hate customer offices

I used to own an Ultra Plus as well. great amp for the money you can't get them for on the used market. I scored a dead mint one for 400 bucks. It isn't as gainy as the XXX, but it can get some decent tones. It has the 'Peavey sound" to it in that it resembles the core tone of their amps like the 5150 and the current XXX, but just doesn't have as much gain. I love the master section on it though. Cool to have the resonant switch. The active EQ takes some getting used to, as fine tweaks can yield big tonal changes.

I miked it up as an experiment when I was recording my band's EP. Surprisingly, it recorded extremely similar to my 6505+, just not as aggressiive or with as much bite. Still a great amp for your collection.
