For those who tested or have it, would it do a rotten sound type sound? Or if not, would it do for grind-core sound? I've heard it does not have enough gain. So what you guys can tell me?

+ 1 or get a boss hm pedal and use through any amp really

Yeah, that's what Dismember uses. I saw them right after they put out Hate Campaign, in this tiny shitty dump here in town. Both guitarist were running JCM 900 heads and cabs with Boss Heavy Metal pedals in front. Everything on the pedals and the heads were DIMED OUT! I swear to fucking shit... EVERYTHING WAS ALL THE WAY UP! It was the craziest shit I've ever seen. I asked David Blomqvist(I think), and he said that that's they way they've ALWAYS done it. Fucking nuts... but that is that Signature Dismember guitar sound.

throw a tubescreamer or any type of overdrive pedal at it and it will do more more distortion than you could ever want. I bought the tubescreamer for it but I don't use it anymore, I just boost up the gain to about 7 and the bass to around 6, treble at 7.5, and mids at about 5. I find that if you don't push the amp hard it sounds a bit dull but if you push it it sounds pretty great without any pedals. A lot of the sound depends on the cab. I shelled out a little bit extra to get the XXX cab instead of the valveking one since i wasn't impressed with the valveking cab at all. Hope that helps a little bit.

+1

I tried this with the revalver MKIII demo (though it's not 100% faithfull to the origional amp) It did lack a lot of gain on the plug as well, so all i did was throw the "greener" infront of it and it had more than enough useable gain.

I would assume it would have a similar effect on the real thing.

I use a Peavey Valveking through a Framus Dragon 412 ST, clean boosted with an SD-1 and it is MEAN. I'm using a Dean caddy with an SD JB in the bridge. I don't know why you'd want any more gain, to be honest. My band plays anything from crystal cleans to Bloodbath-esqu trem picking, and it does both, and does it well. But, as someone said, it is VERY cab dependant. I was using it with a 1960a for ages, and it sounded pretty wank. Then for a while I was using a Sheffield loaded 412, and it sounded worlds better. The V30 Framus I'm now using is just perfect for this head. It seems to divide up bass and clarity, and give you perfect measures of each. I love it.

Speaking of cab dependant heads, the second guitarist in the band uses an Engl Invader 100 through the aforementioned Marshall 1960a, with an LTD F-400 with EMG 81's, and it sounds like shit. At first we thought it was the EMG's that just didn't work with the Engl, seen as my JB's sounded marginally better, but ploughing the Engl through the right cab is brutal. I can whole-heartedly guarantee that Seymour Duncan JB+Valveking+Framus Dragon 412 sounds MUCH better than EMG 81+Invader+1960a, hands down. But the Engl through the right cab (current favourite is the Blackstar Artisan 412) is possibly the nicest sound I've ever heard.
