PodXT or a cheap head?

I'm doing some debating between a PodXT and say a used Peavey Valveking. I'd be running the head direct and using cab impulses so I don't know if I should take the versatility of the Pod or the sound of a real amp.

I've never used the XT so I'm not sure how bang for the buck it is and whether or not the tones are useable.

Your thoughts.

Tube amp + impulses > Pod

(IMHO of course)

What style do you wanna play?
If you want some heavy modern metal tones you will have to tweak A LOT on the PODxt to get it right (but it is 100% possible, see Bulb, Andy Sneap´s demo, Stu Bradbury and all the other PODxt ninjas out there). If you are looking for some classic/soft rock tones it´s very easy to achieve on PODxt.
