Pelican opening for Opeth

I've had the notion to post about this band before, and as they are opening for Opeth in SF (very cool), I thought I'd do it now. Anybody heard Pelican? They are a cool, kinda drony, atmospheric, instrumental, psychedelic metal band. Very good stuff. Kind of like ISIS with no vocals if you know their stuff at all.

Anyway, just found out they are opening for Opeth and I'm thrilled. Nevermore has tour commitments during the California shows, but this is a fair trade off. Plus, I'll get to see Nevermore headline since they are supposed to do a headline tour (though you never know).

Anyway, Pelican is good and some of you might like them....

Haha. Yeah, that's the general idea. If you like that picture, you'll loooove Pelican. Especially their song March Into The Sea. Hand on heart I'm not making up that title.

They'll be a good opening band for Opeth, but I do think the Opeth fans will get bored with them if they play too long. Just my opinion!

A fair opinion. Still, the Opeth fans I run into tend to like odd stuff. I like Pelican. Anyway, I just got my ticket today for the show. Looking forward to it. Fourth time seeing Opeth, first seeing Pelican. Can't say I don't wish it was Nevermore here, but ah well. I'll see them headline perhaps.
