I see it more as change, or evolution, not maturation. That implies that they've gotten better, which I don't think is so evident. It can be debatable.

The notion that maturation means getting better is kind of flawed and innacurate, as it implies that immaturity is lesser or worse in some way. Some would argue that it is not... or would they?
The first 2 albums were definitely more raw and unbalanced. I wouldn't say immaturity though. I think Mikael has probably always been mature. When I say grown-up, I'm talking about the band having 7 studio albums under their belt. They have the experience. And they are getting older and musical interests change. I used to like rap. I used to like hair metal. I have since grown up and don't like rap or hair metal (although hair metal really isn't around anymore anyway). Styles / Interests change.
