I agree, It doesn't seem like it would work on anything really fast though.

a snare sound that has impressed me a lot lately is in "Clients" by The Red Chord, which BTW, is probably my fav record of last year together with Nevermore's and BetweenTBAM's records

Actually you are not alone, I too like drum sound on most of DM albums. A lot of great drums playing there too.
