Looking to mimic (somewhat) the snare sound from Periphery - "Light"

Does anyone have any input to achieve a sound like that in Superior Drummer?

[I'd rather not buy the Bulb presets]

I get the feeling that the 'bulb presets' are nothing like those used on their album. Mainly because I've heard they are terrible.

Just experiment with SD, also I will bet my left bollock that the midi is programmed meticulously and took a long time to do, which obviously effects the drum tone.

Yeah you're right. Man, it's rough getting that perfect snare sound huh! :err:

fiddle around with the avatar snares, transient designer, EQ and compressor
should be possible to get in the ballpark imo, altho thats not a snaresound I'd chase personally

and yes, the bulb presets don't sound anything like that

Also it would be pretty hard to get a close-ish sound considering the Guitar,Bass and Synth tone could be covering up certain Frequencies of the snare making the sound that it is... also he could have some kind of eq on the master buss aswell. but if you can get even close well done

I'm pretty sure that's sarcasm, but it's hard to tell on the internet. If that's the case then firstly I never said that snare is 'perfect', in fact I'm not particularly fond of the snare on that album. Actually looking at my comment, I never said it was either good or bad or even expressed an opinion on it. Notably, on many occasions in interview Misha states that he had a very basic setup when producing their self titled, which implies that there was no fancy trickery or expensive plug-ins/hardware involved on this drum tone, just Superior and a few select plug-ins. Which means that experimenting with SD has a potentially good yield for the 'desirable drum tone' that the OP seeks.

So, in the end, my comment was valid and as several people above have stated the bulb preset is terrible and will not help you with the tone OP want's.

I wasn't being sarcastic at all man.
It really is tough to achieve that perfect snare sound, you know?

I can tell you how to get a snare similar to that one (and no bulb's presets don't fucking help at all, they only helped narrowing down the snare but he isn't agressive enough with the compression and I really think there needed to be some more body on that snare to match so this is very similar to one of his presets but I changed it quite a bit in the interest of not being a douche and sharing paid for settings):

The problem is even with these settings it doesn't bring out that shitty ringy sound in the song. So maybe boost that as well or add a transient designer and boost the sustain (or decay whatever the setting is called).

For the record I don't like the way that snare sounds AT ALL.

Adding a "ring" sample with a snare can really make it pop. You can get away with a quite long ring without it sounding strange. Keep in mind that i haven't heard Peripherys mix.
Just listen to the Paramore snare on Riot album, that snare has quite allot of ring, makes it sound good :)
