Periphery

great album start to finish. Jeff Loomis even makes his mark on the album in the last song. I'd suggest any fans of BTBAM and Meshuggah to pick this up as soon as you can.
 
I think the musicianship on here is awesome; however, the singer bothers me too much to allow me to really get into the music. Btw, I'm talking about the singing...not the growls. The guy just sounds too I don't know how else to put it but mainstream metal to me.
 
Without the vocals, the songs are fantastic. With the vocals, they become less approachable. For me, the problem is more about the harsh vocals, which have a staccato phrasing that doesn't always work. I wonder if the band is aware of this, because this disc seems to be available both with and without vocals, which is a bit unusual.
