Well, its not SYL, because its Physicist, simple as that.
They're not the same... different emotions going into it is probably the main thing, and though both SYL and Physicist are heavy, they both have their own sound. But I'd say it all has to do with whatever mental state Devin was in at the time, it brought about Physicist, and not another SYL album.

Physicist is just fuckin' brilliant. It's more futuristic sounding than SYL. It's hard to hear the guitar at times, and that can be a little annoying, but Physicist is probably my favorite Dev album followed very closely by City. Physicist is more personal than SYL, and I think that's why I like it more. I can relate more to what Dev is saying on Physicist than on SYL.

Physicist and SYL are two seperate entities. SYL is mechanical, while Physicist is chemical. Simple.

If you're right, it should have been called the "The Chemist", but since mechanics is an actual branch of physics, I'm not sure if you're joking or not. Either way, I know what you're saying. To me, The Physicist is more technical (where you say chemical) and SYL is just pure and raw for the most part (well, in my concept of it at least). I like the Physicist (anyone know if there will be a follow-up?), but I will always prefer SYL.

I like Physicist but was pretty disapointed by it, because listen to SYL, Infinty, or Ocean Machine, it's way beyond that.
Physicist didn't go well with the critics or Devin himself. you can't compare it to any other Devins projects, I'd say the worst one(it's still very good). Devin said that he had problems making this album... well he made Terria after physicist, and that one was the greatest, so I wouldn't worry about the 2 new albums.... Can't wait!!

and every thing else is going to be The Devin Townsend Band (OM, infinity, Terria, and the new one)
