Seymour Duncan Pickup SHR1n Hot Rails
or
EMG 81

Witch one do you guys think sounds the best?

depends on the guitar, playing style and genre...

be more specific... or, buy one and try it... if you dont like it, sell it... buy the other and check it out...

thats the only way you will know for certain... of course it isnt cheap to do this... but its better than taking the majorities ruling on it...

but... me... EMG81.:)

For a bridge pickup or neck? (You know they're two different sizes right? The Hot Rails is a single coil sized pickup. Seems like an odd comparison.)

DSS3, have you tried the D Activator pickups? Mine blow the shit out of any EMGs I've played through, they're amazing.

I can't say what would be better with just that information - wood, tuning, and playing style would be much more helpful... as well as proper pickup size, I'd recommend comparing apples with apples.

I got a ESP ltd now with 2 duncan design. its a 7-string which I tuned the seventh droped to B as a 6-strings.
I saw that EMG-81 have pickups for 7-strings as well. dunno with the HR.

I play metal of course and are looking for a guitar sound like KsE.
hehe and yes..I know it depends on the amps and stuff as well.

/J.

maybe EMG 81 - for the neck and 85 - for the bridge, or vice versa?

I don't believe there is a Hot Rails for the seven.

I'd actually wait until Seymour Duncan Blackouts come out - either you'll be blown away by their quality and tone and will be glad you did, or you won't and EMG prices will drop anyway due to the new toy in competition with them.

I've not... if the Blaze I have arriving tomorrow doesn't work out in the bridge of my 1527, I'll try the D-activators.

the hot rail is quite muddy,
id reccomend a jb jr or lil59 if you need a single coil sized humbucker
or otherwise a jb

yea, seems like everyone have different opinion, but I need som advice to get that metal shred heavy stuff...does andy use EMG 81? I know peter tägtgren uses -81s.

I use the emg81 in the bridge, and it rocks, best pickup ever for me....some people like to put the 81 in the neck and the 85 in the bridge becouse they says that the 81 tend to sound thin, but for me the 81 works beautiful.

I have an ESP with an EMG 85(bridge) and an EMG 89(push/pull coil tap).
I also have an LTD H1000 that has a pretty traditional Seymour Duncan setup. JB and 59, but they're gold plated, so I get a nice sound out of them. It's two different worlds, the ESP has so much power, clarity, sustain. But also, my ESP's made out of Maple, and maple's pretty much known for being very dark. The EMG's bring clarity.

My LTD is made out of Mahogany so I get a brighter sound, and since the pickups are pretty balanced, I won't have to change my settings too much.
