Pitch shifting guitars to substitute bass..

behindert tips:
"The pitched guitar thingy is:
1. Record the "bass track" with a clean single coil tone.
2. Process it with the Warp plug's clean channel. Basically with all settings except bass on max, and not volume ofcourse.
3. Pitch shift 1 octave down.
4. Process with the same Warp settings as mentioned above.
5. Process with the Warp plug's channel in the middle, settings after taste."

+1 to buying a cheap bass. But...

When I was doing the pitched guitar for bass substitute, it would be using at least the bridge humbucker, if not a single coil if available, going directly in. Then I would use Cubase's pitch shifter to pitch down 1 octave. After that I would run it through Melodyne to tune it (makes a more solid sounding bass, Sturgis tip) and then into Ampeg SVX set on one of the Pick presets and adjusted to taste. Pretty convincing sometimes ;) However, it is not an even substitute for a real bass guitar, even a cheap one.

Don't worry Jess (thanks for the compliment btw), I'm in the same boat, affording a cheap bass is on my priority list, but it sure as shit can't happen now! Anyway, I find I get the best results from recording the "bass parts" using the middle spot on my toggle switch (blend of the bridge and neck pickups) and playing it as if I were playing a bass; mainly, all open strings, no palm mutes (just mute the ringing strings with free fingers on your left hand). As for the rest, well, watch and learn!

Sorry for the doublepost, but if I picked up that SX bass that Razorjack linked, well, is it even remotely possible (even with hours of tweaking) to get a decent bass tone from Gearbox/POD Farm? :\

what i'm getting from your video is this... a guy makes a plug that you like and gives it to you for free, but because he has decided to have some conditions... probably designed to steer others to his site so he can reap the benefits of this free plug vis-a-vis increased traffic that may decide to donate, or perhaps pay for some of his non-free items or whatever... he can "suck all the dicks in the land". lol. i'm sure he'd be pleased to know his efforts have been so appreciated.

Well no, the thing is he's completely pulled it down and it can't be downloaded anywhere, paid or otherwise! (cuz I would have totally been willing to pay him for it if he gave me the option)

EDIT: And yeah, I see how you would think that from the way I said it in the video about not being able to share, but if he COMPLETELY cuts off any access to this plugin (as he has, AFAIK), it's not like there's any other way!

maybe the free one was released free to "test the waters"... and he's now retooling it for commercial release?

i always just borrow a bass though. will buy one whenver i run across one i really like.
