Places to stay in melbourne

I may be visiting melb around the end of the month and was just wondering if anyone recommends some good cheapo places to stay probably around the city centre or there abouts? Many thanks

How many nights are you staying for? There are tons of backpackers in the city but I don't know if that's what you had in mind...
