I want to start this off by saying I am NOT trying to spam this forum with this post. I know there are a lot of very involved people in the prog/power and heavy metal scenes across the united states that post on this forum, and I simply hope to get some suggestions and advice from anyone who knows their local scene. I'm only posting this on the two forums I regularly check on Ultimate Metal, so if you see the nearly identical one over at the Symphony X place, please don't get the wrong impression! And Glenn, I'm sorry if this is an unwelcome post, feel free to remove it if necessary.

For those who don't know, I'm in a true/heavy metal band and we're heading out on a short stint east. We haven't played most of the cities out that way and so we have very few contacts. Below is our tour itinerary, if you know of any local bands who might help us either book a show or would be down to play with us as well as any venues in the area that would welcome a band of our type, suggestions are most welcome! Here's what helps me most:

Venues:
Which local venues would be worth a small, relatively unknown touring band trying to book a show at? Looking at bars and small clubs that are known in the area for decent to great sound, don't fuck over touring bands, etc. I'm not asking for miracles, I just don't want to deal with too many people trying to screw us over
Any email addresses, websites, facebook pages or myspace pages would be appreciated.
Also, places to avoid and why would be great!!

Bands:
We are willing to play with a wide range of styles within the metal spectrum. First and foremost, we don't want to play with any nu-metal or 'core bands, so please, no chugga chug *pinch harmonic* shit. We will fit best with thrash, power, heavy, or prog metal, but if you know of a really good death or black metal band that are melodic and who's members have an appreciation for Maiden, Manowar, Priest and Dio, we can turn to the darker sides of metal! We're looking for to put on a good show first and foremost, so if you know of any great locals then please link me to a metal-archives page or myspace/facebook!

Promotors:
This is a long shot, but if anyone knows any reputable promoters who are willing to set up Metal shows with the true spirit of metal in mind (again, can be anything except nu-metal and 'core bands), please post their info or pass mine along (found near the bottom of the post). It is also VERY HELPFUL to know of any particularly shady promoters in the area. Names and any information/reasons why to stay away from them would be great! I know some of you do book shows now and then, so if you are willing to help out then PLEASE check the links provided below and contact me if you can help.

Itinerary:
the whole thing revolves around a fest in Ohio that we are booked for, so this is the remainder of our itinerary that we haven't booked. there are a few flexible dates that we are looking for basically whatever offer pans out best, so please throw out as many bands/venues as you can for the places we have listed or anywhere in the close vicinity.

Thursday, June 24: Madison, WI / Minneapolis, MN / Detroit, MI
Sunday, June 27: Detroit, MI / Chicago, IL
Monday, June 28: Chicago, IL

Wednesday, June 30: Denver, CO

If anyone needs my phone number, PM me and you are free to pass it along.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

If you're looking into a phoenix AZ date, you can contact Mosh Pit Crew (I do not have a website or contact info) - I know they book a lot of metal bands for U.B.'s Bar - Or attempt to contact the Tempe Clubhouse (which would be a better choice of venue IMO).

Also, if you make it out here, let me know. I'd be happy to come out and do shots of your show.

Thanks for the responses so far guys!

I thought of one more thing that would be a great help. If anyone knows of any local metal online communities that would be worth checking out, that would be a huge help. In Seattle we have a forum called True Metal Seattle that bands have been known to post for help just like this. I'm sure other cities have them, so if you know of any or post on any in your area, links would be awesome!

@killingfield: Thanks for the kind words :)

@nailz: We won't be coming down that way this time, but we're going to be looking to tour down in the southwest probably later this year or early next year, so I will definitely keep these places in mind! I'll hit you up once we get a date in your neck of the woods.

@Diabolik: I will check out the Red Line Tap. Anyone in particular I should contact or just go through their booking link?

@J-Dubya 777: Thanks for the PM. Hope to see you at one of our stops!

For KC,MO get in touch with my friends at Live Evil Promotions, Joe and Jodi also do the Kansas City Power Metal Fest, but typically its in mid-august

For Red Line Tap, hit up Chris Black from Planet Metal Records / the band High Spirits / etc....

I think Red Line Tap only does metal the last Saturday of the month.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped out, our tour is almost fully booked now! I'll make sure to update this thread once we have everything confirmed with dates, venues, line-ups, etc. But it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, so thanks again everyone for suggestions!

Rock!!
