please help me with some metalcoe (?)

i think everything's ok besides vocals - they are toooo loud

Hi there :)
Interesting style, I like the female vocals, I would bring them just a bit more to the front. The Guitars sound good :). Don't like the snare though, I'd choose another sample and add some more dynamics. The kick could be a bit more prominent in the mix but it all goes to personal preference, I guess.

..done...but they're gonna be re-recorded tomorrow anyway.

jepp, he's tuned his snare that awefully high, i was happy to get at least rid of that st.anus "dong" ;)
snare is 100% pure, no samples wanted,he played that consistently.. (supported by some heavy compression, to make the snare-sound acceptable at least;) ).
I don't really like the snare myself, but the last drummers that came in the studio always wanted that dry *plong* kind of sound.....
drummers are weird anyway..:zombie:

thanks for your post, hope some more will follow.

yea i can live with this bro i guess im just not as picky as others really.... Newb ears still :headbang:

Sounds nice though... That sub bass on end part??

would not mind at all if you wanna share details.......................

Wow, I was so sure it was a sample or a blended sampled/dry snare :)
Does the drummer like the way it sounds in the mix? Perhaps blend it 50/50 with another snare (Andy's sample for example :worship: ). Not that it's that horrible but it kind of sticks out in an unpleasant way.

i tried Andy's and several other samples.
neither would blend nicely, it always sounded like 2 snares played simultaneously.
his snare is so dominant ;)

but i gotta say i kinda get used to it, at least it sounds completely different than most metal-snares today ;)

(i only got used to it coz i have no choice, though :saint: )

the only alternative would be do use a 100% sample an that is not an option for this project.......when i not at least pretend to like it, it will bother me for the rest of my life..or at least as long as i gotta hear it.....:puke: ......
so spread some confidence 'bout how unique the snareb sounds, mates..:loco:

P.S. i realize...i use way too much smileys......probably the glühwein in me hitting that ":" and ")" all the time....

Don't worry about the snare, it's just special :p

..you can turn its volume down a bit, though. That way it will be ..more subtle as well ;)

wow bro, good work!

I agree w/the snare, but it really doesn't bother me too much.

Love the panned vox parts.

Guits sound great! Mesa?

But, it sounds like you may be hitting your 2-buss compressor/limiter a bit too hard, it's fatiguing my ears a bit.

Once again, great work!

dont question the drummer, he is on the right path with the snare

i like the volume its at right now, i think it sounds excellent and real

refreshing !

thanks for all your comments! the female vox are just scratch-tracks. the new/real tracks have been recorded today, i hope to find the time to mix them in tomorrow.
and yes, it's way to compressed, but the a&r guy wanted it loud....... i think the end version will be less compressed.

so thanks again for all your hints, i'll do my best to get rid of the mentioned problems.....I'll post an update as soon i've got a newer verion.

but one thing left to ask for.....i'm aware it's by far not the best production ever but who gave that one star (terrible), and why.....if someone is thinkiong it's total crap and listening to it was nothing but totally wasted time, i'm cool with that, i'd just be interested to know WHY it's so terrible.

thx

I'm interested to hear what the final female vox sounds like. I thought it was a bit too nasaly, also. But the instruments sound great! I don't like snares to sound as hollow as this one does, but that's just personal opinion and it still sounds awesome in the mix.

Is it already time for Gluehwein? Damn, I was just in Duesseldorf last month and I missed it. Looks like it's time to start adding the Gewurtz to my wine here!!!

cheers,
Richard "doc"

thanks for your feedback.
i've got a hard time here getting the female vox right....
the band is in berlin and has no time to come here.. i told them to record the vox as quick as possible, so i can finish the project...
they did, without pop-filter or a decent mic or pre....
so they sent me the vox-track today and i had to mutilate all 3 of them and cut them together to one without pops and rumble all over the place ;)

I'm still not too satisfied with the female vox, they just don't wanna fit.....
k, here's an update with the new vox (not that different from the other one) and less compression on the bus:

jepp, finally glühwein is available again....no more heating sangria in the microwave ;)

thanks.
the A&R guy just gave his ok, he said it was the first time in 3 years with the Band, that none had anything to complain about and the sound wasn't discussed more than 1 minute! ;)
so the management and band decided to produce the next album with me (makes me a little proud, i had to compete with some big names over here, though.....:headbang: )

thanks for all your help and feedback.

great forum!!
