plug ins not working!

hi, i loaded the sonar of metal template in dfhs onto cubase and used the preset sounds and programmed my drums but now im getting to the mixing stage i cant seem to get the plug ins to have any effect! the drum sounds the same regardless of any tweaking on any plug in. help a brother out! cheers

the kick drum and the snare... want to make things a bit tighter before i lay down the bass tracks

I would bounce those tracks to audio...would save some computing power (CPU)...then work them into the mix (using audio tracks not midi)
