Pop Punk band, SSD3.0, Bogner Uberschall

I think you'd be happier if you bumped up the drums quite a bit. They aren't driving the song when they're that far down in the mix. Hi-hats are at a decent level, though.

Guitars sound pretty good.

i lowered the guitars a bit, if i turned the drums up much more, i get some horrid clipping and pumping.

but none the less, doing the same as turning the drums up and turning the guitars down a bit

any ideas on the vocals? I hate the clean vocals.. they sound... i dont know. not enough "in your face"

thats what my problem with them is. it is definitely a lofi sound.. and i hate it.

i recorded with an at 2020.

not that great of a mic.. but still.. it shouldnt sound that bad. i need a better vocal mic. I spent all of my money on drum mics haha.

the yelling vocals were recorded with a Rode M3. I just like the sound of it for some reason haha.

i actually think the clean vocals sound pretty...clean.

not sure if thats a good thing or not.

but haha oh well.

thanks for everyones input.

more would be appreciated.

any ideas on how to bring the vocals to sound a bit more commercial..

kind of that CLA sounding vocal sound.

The guitars sound a bit too "near" in the mix for me.

It's like the guitarists are standing right in front of me and the speakers are boosting into my ears while the drums get buried about 50 meters behind them. ;)

If you get clipping when turning up the volume of the drums maybe you should try turning the volume of the guitars down and/or use the EQ different.

I realy like this pop punk + hardcore stuff!!!!!!!!!

But the production is OVERALL to METAL!!!!
To clicky bassdrum + to much compression on the drums + hifi sounding vocals....
Dont get me wrong, it doesnt sound that bad, but it´s the wrong production for this kind of music.

production is pretty metal, but still the vox sound tin like and high shelf eqed, how are the guitars panned, why are the guitars so loud, how are you mixing things, what is the signal path for vox etc?

The drums need to come up a bit, I would change the snare sound to something with more crack and snare wire sound. The kick needs more lows.

How did, you eq the clean vocals? because it sounds like you made them too thin to compensate for them being too high in the mix, also, both sets of of vocals are overcompressed a fair bit.

maybe thats what my problem is. I am a more metal influenced person. this is definitely the first pop punk song i have done.

my bogner also is not a very low gain amp. haha

i was listening to Four Year Strong to get an idea for the mix.. really punchy drums that drive in the mix, guitars back in the back... but for some reason.. they are much more present than the drums. ill experiment with some different samples and see..

anyone have any preference for a pop punk sound with Slate samples?

still, any ideas for bringing the vocals out. Ive cut highs and gotten a real muddy sound ive done everything that i could think of that would make sense and things that would not make sense. I am thinking it is just how the vocalist sounds. it was his "first time" singing. bad news... but i figured i could fatten them up a bit.

as far as guitars. they are panned hard left and right.

i will work on a new mix now that my ears are rested and post it back up here.
