Porcupine Tree

well dude you're obviously as big a fan as I am and let me tell you're about to develop a new special place in that black heart of yours....either that or I should stay the fuck out of the coffee shops in Amsterdam.....it reminds me of Signify in places and Stupid Dream, it impacted me that hard when I heard it the first time.

Ooh, comparisons to Signify get my pants tight.

That album is so fuckin great, cause it was the first "band" effort--the middle album, where they combined the earlier, ambient textural trip out material, with the more "songwriting" based stuff of their later music.

Dark matter....

Inside the vehicle the cold is extreme
Smoke in my throat kicks me out of my dream

I try to relax but its warmer outside
I fail to connect, it's a tragic divide

This has become a full time career
To die young would take only 21 years

Gun down a school or blow up a car
The media circus will make you a star

Dark matter flowing out on to a tape
Is only as loud as the silence it breaks

Most things decay in a matter of days
The product is sold the memory fades

Crushed like a rose
In the river flow
I am I know

try the live work, sounds like kc and the sunshine band

They are amazing live.
They carry out a wonderful energy.
According to one, that night we were all: " A bunch of Sunbathing Bastards! "
I saw them 1,5 year ago here in Tilburg, and soon again at the 11th of april.
Damn.. i can still hear myself saying :
" oh no, that music usually gets me so depressed" ...me and my deaf ears!
Those mean, mean baaaaaaad machines! :p (tsk tsk tsk.)

sorry w... i agree w/ steph.

I guess you could both agree that you didn't think they were a good live band. That wasn't the case when I saw them live. With that being said the new cd is amazing and I'm sure neither one of you have heard it.

My three cents:
1. "Stupid Dream" is by far their worst/most conventional/less intriguing/ album. I cant understand why people recommend it.
2. You should all check their pre- "The Sky Moves Sideways" albums, they are different but maybe their best (except - "Signify" this masterpiece is another matter). They are total psychedelic trips, very 60s and Pink Floyd oriented. A great example is "Voyage 34 - the complete trip" (different versions of a single).
3. Is it neccesary that WD should start a thread, so that you might consider to check a good non metal band?

hoping i can see them on May 21 in Philly, but I have sooo much stuff to do that day. plus, it's the day after my birthday, so happy birthday me...

saw Blackfield acoustic in Philly. mindblowing!

So I popped over the Ameoba Music the other day to see if they had an import of Deadwing, and they didn't.

However, in the used Porcupine Tree section, there was an advance copy of Deadwing for $5. Yoink!

The album is fucking awesome, a combination of In Absentia and Lightbulb Sun with a hint of Signify, I would say. It's got a lot of the new heavys that PT has picked up as of late, but its also more mellow than IA at the same time. Lots of vocal harmonies, courtesy of Mike A from Opeth, and lots of beautifuly melancholic passages, perfect to chill out to.

THIS BAND CAN DO NO WRONG

And apparently, Robert Fripp's gonna be opening up the San Francisco show. Fuck yeah for pretentious English soundscapage

Anyone want to join me in a trip to the Comcast higher ups so we can... get good internet back. I'd love to give some of their samples a listen but I can't hold a connection long enough to hear more than 10 seconds.

Tomorrow they'll play in Tilburg, 2nd time this year.
And i'm so gonna be there!
@ Corsnor: See you in 013. If i remember correctly, you said that you were going to that show too. See ya there. If you come early enough? you'll be able to catch Outburst and Biomechanical @The Batcave, 013.
Metalmatinee in de batcave s'middags, PT s'avonds.
@ Henry: will you be there, too?

I saw Porcupine Tree twice in the last six months, and they were fucking great. I highly suggest seeing them live.

I agree. Last time i saw them they were freaking tight and the place was packed (most came to see Anethema) , it was such an amazing show.
To be short here, Anethema sucked. PT chased everyone up the downstairs and all eyes were on PT that evening, they rocked.
It's Opeth vs Porcupine Tree, because Opeth plays in Utrecht, so i don't have a clue if it's gonna be full house tomorrow. :err: Twice in 8 months for me.
I hope they're gonna groove, they did last time.
