Portishead

The second album, self-titled, is fucking mind-blowing. Very Twin-Peaks-ish, "humid weather with dead bodies in a swamp" type stuff. Dramatic as fuck, sell your mother for a copy.

hehe np

Trust me, you'll enjoy it, and be picturing the "murder vitcim in the boot of a car by the swamp" movie scene by the second song LOL

Seriously speaking though - it's quite a sinister record in ways, quite dark indeed. A seriously great piece of work, the vocal work is excellent and the beats are fucking fantastic. A flawless album, enjoy it :kickass:

self-titled is easily the best and darkest, followed by 'third' (man i love that single), with 'dummy' being the worst. all are at least pretty good though.

All of them are different and all of them are worth listening to. Your best bet is to get all of them and listen to them in chronological order.

I think they keep getting better with Third being their best. Songs like 'Threads', 'We Carry On', 'The Rip', 'Small' (um...the whole album, actually) are phenomenal.

fuck no!

all this analog drum machine Atari video-game bullshit is fuckin infantile. Frontline Assembly could get away with it, but of this lot I'd have expected much better. The only good moment of that was in the end of "Machine Gun", when they sounded like a pathetic rip-off of Ulver's Perdition City OST.

the best thing about this album is the 100% lack of the irritating moments of her voice found on the first two albums. It's a shame this was wasted on such substandard music.

If it wasn't for Gibbin's voice I would have seriously thought this was some lone basement computer-musician collection of songs spammed out under the guise of being the new album of a band people actually want to hear.

Best Cuts: "Hunter", "Small", and "Threads".

"Mysterons", "Wandering Star", and "Numb" (the only songs I liked on Dummy) kick the ass of everything on Third combined :kickass:

Self-Titled is so easily the best, you're right, there.

i dunno man, i probably agree with your "best cuts" (except for the fact i love 'the rip' more than any of those), but i definitely wouldn't put 'numb' ahead of them. 'wandering star'... i like but again prob not. 'mysterons' is great so yeah possibly. i also like the worst tracks on third more than crap like "it's a fire", "it could be sweet" and "strangers"

let's just agree on the s/t anyway, that one's a class apart :)

I can't figure out why people would complain about Beth Gibbons' vocals, and I especially can't figure out why people would listen to Portishead if they didn't like Beth Gibbons' vocals, since they're one of the main parts of the music.
