Post about your Bands / Musical Projects here!

I write music on my guitar but never recorded anything. But as far as bands go I am currently playing bass in a cover band called full frontal. And one of the lead guitar players in the said band has been writing his own material and i am going to be recording bass for him tommorow.

And i filled in for bass once in one of my friend's bands that plays more of a rock/punk/ type of thing.
 
no music projects for me. but i just started playing again after a hiatus. only ever been in two bands

one was a pop-punk/alt-rock band that never got a name because no drummer or bassist could be found. wrote 3 or 4 songs. Played guitar

seconed was a rock/prog. i can't remember the name we were gonna call it but we were gonna record an album and had one live. alot of the members moved away before the final preperations could be made. i played bass

thats my musical history. kind of bleak actually. once i get back into the groove of things i want to start up 2 or 3 projects. an acoustic indie rock one, a grindcore one and a post-hardcore/metalcore/pop-punk project*yea i suck at describing*

I've been swamped with exams and flights back home and holiday shopping lately. I'm finally in the clear though! So I can start posting again:loco:


I've got two solo metal projects. The first is From the Miasma, a very Opethian/Agallochian/Katatonian project that I've put on the back burner for the last year or so.
I've been concentrating on my main project, Arctus. It started as melodic death meets folk metal (Dark Flames, Aelinos), but has more black metal influences as well in the latest work (Fire Still Burns + new stuff).

Right now I'm working on 4 songs that I should have finished (and posted) by the end of the holidays.

Also, for those who are interested, a few friends of mine and I are going to be doing an "Album-a-Day" tomorrow! (Crap Art: Album-A-Day)

At least 20 minutes of music. Everything written and recorded in a 24 hour time period.
I remember DG saying one time he enjoyed the experience of writing music under the pressure of a time limit (though I think he said he wanted to do an album in 3 months, rather than 24 hours :lol: )

I have no idea what type of music will result (which is good, I suppose, because there should be nothing premeditated, everything should be spontaneous from the 24 hour time period). The other 4 of us include a sax/clarinet player who conducts a high school jazz band, a singer/songwriter who also loves Brian Setzer Orchestra, a Sinatra impersonator who also loves Great Big Sea, and a blues guitarist who also loves Radiohead.

Whatever emerges from this melting pot will certainly be....unique.

Crast, I think you'll find that many more people have heard Canopy than you are aware!

I've heard the name mentioned a few times on UM, and seen a few threads with links to your website. I know I've checked some stuff out in the past, but I can't remember it at all! I'll check out some of the new stuff soon!



As for me, I've only been playing electric guitar for a couple of years, but I like to record sometimes, just using a single cheap mic right on to regular cassette tapes. Gotta start somewhere!

And also, I recently started a new band with 2 other guitarists. The only problem is writing songs that we can all enjoy playing and writing cuz I mainly write thrash/ death metal riffs and the other writer is completely obsessed with Agalloch and Leviathan and other such things (I know those 2 arent really related) so thats what he writes. Believe it or not, its become quite a problem for us.

Crast: I checked out Coup De Grace EP by Obitus a year ago and was actually scared of it. That was some mean-ass music, but well done.


As for me, I'm not exactly musically-inclined (I can play guitar somewhat and I'm always pretending to be a drummer, but I'm not). I am, however, a filmmaker. I have three films under my belt: Bad Business, The Louisville Slugger and The Payoff. All three are between 15-18 minutes in length.

Bad Business is a film-noir piece set around a ring of corruption in a Cleveland police precinct. It's my friend Chris's story and is actually a part of a trilogy, working from the end to the beginning. He, my friend John and I still need to work out the full scripts for each of the three films, but what we have now is a 16 minute piece that is essentially a trailer of what's to come in the future.

The Louisville Slugger is a mystery/suspense film in which a prisoner charged with murder has escaped a prison in the Louisville, Kentucky area. All of his victims were killed with a Louisville Slugger (hence the title), but the story is set up in such a way that the "Louisville Slugger" can be either of the two main characters. It basically goes back and forth, so the audience is thrown through a loop trying to figure out who it is. That's all I'm going to say about that film (I don't want to give too much away).

The Payoff is a dark drama in which two struggling businessmen have to save their business, yet again, but choose to do so by making some quick money with the mafia. That backfires, so in order to stay alive, they have to do something even more drastic. They choose to rob a bank, which blows up in their face as well. Neither of them walk away alive, but they're aren't exactly bad guys either. They just wanted to save their business and were at their wits end. This is another story that I want to turn into a feature-length as well, but I'm going to need to come up with a treatment before I start writing the script. I guess this film could be considered a trailer as well.

Hehe, the Obitus EP is interesting, wouldn't listen to it today probably. The
new Obitus material that is being released soon is of a completely different
standard! But thanks!

I play in a dynamic extreme metal band called VEX. We are influenced by Rush, Iron Maiden, Bathory, Absu, the work of Samuel Beckett, misery and alcohol consumption. We've toured the West Coast and opened for Katatonia, Deicide, Hate Eternal, Exhumed, etc. here in Texas. We are searching for a label to release our first full-length that is currently being recorded.
 
I was trying to get something started for the last year or so as I was honing my guitar skills, but nothing happened as in the first few months, I didn't really find anyone, and if I did they didn't have interest in either just me or me and the music I wanted to play. Now I've found 3 other guys, and today another who I had forgotten about. I finally got a drum set a few days ago and I really want to start learning that, so my friend who plays drums came over and so did my bassist, and we literally had our first song as a band. Too bad my drummer friend wasn't sure how the drum part went, however I let him listen to it once and it turned out pretty well from what he made of it. I'm not sure about any tentative names for the band as we haven't discussed regular play times. The bad thing is school has always intervened in the creative process and not allowed us to get together as often as we would. Exams are coming up in about 3 weeks, so there's really no chance for us to do anything, and I hate this feeling of not being able to do what I want because of these limitations. However, this guy that I met once who came over on the last day of school last year who is from another nearby school, was talking to me on msn and he is a bassist that has been playing for 2 years who wants to start a metal band with another guitarist he knows. I'm definetly up for it since we love the same things basically, except he likes punk and crossover, which I am not the biggest fan of. Not that I care about trivial things like that though. I'm kind of psyched, but I know nothing will happen in a while since we don't even have the same class together. That's what's also bad about the situation with the guys in my school. 2 of the guys live 5 minutes away from me, but I met them through another friend, not through any of my classes. The fact that we share no classes means that I have to come home every day and talk to them on msn, which is nice because we have webcam, but it's still not the same as interacting with a person close up. Basically, that's how it is.

I've designed their Logo, Website, Web Banners, MySpace, Press kit, CD Book, I even wrote a riff in one of their songs! :headbang:

They are having the CD release party for their new full length CD entitled "Time is the Enemy" on Feb 9 @ The Chubby Pickle in Windsor Ontario. If you're in or around the area, check it out, cover charge is $3 for 4 bands and Lunacy CD's are $10, can't go wrong there.
