Apparently it used to be, informally. Several times when I've told old time Riverside folk where I live they say "whoa, the Aspens!?! The party place!" Now it's pretty quiet though, full of old people, hot SWFs, and about 3 dudes like me that disturb everyone else with their youth. Actually I keep to myself now, when I first moved in I had a party once a week but almost got evicted so I don't let many people over anymore.

I've always pictured Riverside as a wasteland.

Everybody in SoCalifornia does, it cracks me up. People think Riverside and the only thing they know is "smog." Now we do have some shitty air no doubt (mostly blown in from Los Angeles and settling here since it's the valley), but there are many beautiful areas in the main city. Then there's the desert and mountains, which probably make up about 80% of the entire county.

My parents have about 200 yucca plants (sumbitches grow like weeds and rarely die), if you're serious I could send you a baby one. Just give it more water than it needs and it'll grow to well over 4 feet. Joshua trees are a different story, I don't think you're allowed to unearth those. Those things are gigantic anyway, I think they come out of the womb already 20 feet tall.

Yeah I actually really like Riverside, it's the rest of SoCal (and a lot of the people moving here) that bother me. It's not perfect though, there are some real shit areas like Romoland and Rialto that I generally avoid. Then to the north is San Bernardino, home of my old university, some of the most beautiful mountains and deserts, and... about half a million meth labs. It was once the murder county capital of the US too, if I recall correctly.
