so why wear the cross and even call yourself catholic?? :hypno:

Because it's what I was. The cross was given to me by my great grandmother before she passed away and I haven't taken it off since. It wouldn't matter if it was a bracelet or a cross or whatever, the meaning of it is not as directly related to what most people perceive it as as you think.

not to put words in her mouth, but i think she was saying that they "worship" reason as a religion over actual religion

Okay, but it doesn't fit the definition of religion, nor worship. He simply has no religion.

yes, it does

6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience

if he's a devoted follower and practicer of scientific proceedures, and revels in it, that's his religion

I'm sorry, it doesn't fit a traditional definition. Not the 6th definition probably added with in the last 5 years attempting to make bald a hair color and brushing your teeth a religion.

traditional definiton, not traditional definition... bla bla bla

i didin't mean it so literally!!! don't take everything so serious!

By definition, no, atheism is not a religion, but what Dead_Lioness means to say (I think) is that atheism is, for all intents and purposes, a religion, the difference between other religions being that atheism proclaims that there is no God. But like other religions, atheism blindly (and stupidly, in my opinion) accepts a dogma, just like other religions, the dogma being that there is no God.

Remember that atheism != agnosticism. Agnostics indeed have no religion. Atheists do, seeing as they accept a religious dogma.

Personally I am Agnostic, but can you define this dogma, give me the basic tenets of atheism? Besides that they agree there's no god I've never heard of anything else they've in common.

What is religion? Why do people worry about not worrying about it so much? If you don't believe in it, don't talk about it. Life is way too short.

Perniciosa, you're beautiful :)

Agnostic and atheism are not the same.

Also, look up the philsophical arguments regarding what religion IS, and you'll find nobody has a fucking clue.

What I can tell you is they nearly all start well, and at their core they mean well.
