Presonus BlueTube?

MetalJonesy

more metal, more booze!!!
anyone had one/got one, just wonderin what peoples opinions are on it!

im looking for something to use for the 4 line inputs on my DIgi 002

so far the options are:
Presonus Tube Pre 1ch £80 (enough for the time being for vox and guitar)
Presonus Bluetube £125 (not much more than the Tube Pre and its 2 ch)
RME Quad Mic £270(4 ch really cant afford this one for the forseeable future)

Im thinking best for quality and price

i havent got any where near enough for the rme quad straight off, i have enough for the Tube Pre, but do i save for the 2 ch blue tube? does anyone know if the pres are equal in quality, and how would they compare to that of the rme?

Its only really going to be used, like i said, for vox, and guitars. Maybe the occasional snare drum if im not sample replacing.

Eh, I've heard pretty crappy things about it, mostly cuz it has a starved plate design (whatever that is , but as I understand it, in practice it means that the tube really isn't getting much voltage so there's very little actual tube character that comes through - please someone elaborate or correct me if I'm wrong!) Check out the M Audio DMP3 for a good budget preamp from what I've heard.

I had the Presonus BlueTube.. Didnt like it.

I had a SM Pro Audio TB101 which is in the same priceclass.. I liked that one much more..

what differences did you like/dislike between the two?

I found the TB101 to be warm and gentle. The eq and comp section was good to have too.

The BlueTube was just harsh.

Its been quite a while since I sold them both but thats how I remember them..
