Pro Tools 11 Announced, 64 bit, offline bouncing, etc.

This makes it perfect to upgrade!

"If you have a collection of 32-bit RTAS-only plug-ins, you can still comfortably upgrade to Pro Tools 11. That's because Avid has created a special co-install of Pro Tools 10 and 11, which lets you switch between versions, without managing multiple disk partitions or restarting. In fact, Pro Tools 10 and 11 sessions are fully cross-compatible. Most AAX plug-ins will run in Pro Tools 10's 32-bit environment, and thanks to Pro Tools 11's Offline Bounce function, you can easily render tracks with 64-bit-only AAX plug-ins. Your Pro Tools 11 registration even comes with an iLok authorization for Pro Tools 10, so upgrading from Pro Tools 9 or an earlier version is totally painless."

This is the only response I have to this... (a good thing!)

I half want to upgrade as I'm planning to get a new Mac Mini this year anyway, but I really can't be bothered with having to jump from one version to another for certain plugins. Might be time to trim the fat and keep my plugs to just the bare essentials.

Yeah, I see that being a disadvantage, but I'd probably just run with 10 until all the plug-ins catch up. That said, I suspect within 3 months, most companies will be there or thereabouts.

Are you kidding me, my MacBook Pro mid 2011 would not be supported ? Is that a joke ?

i'm glad for PT users this mastodonte is getting somewhere more logical with all the competition around, offline bouncing and stuff, and I wasn't even aware it didn't support 64bit or maybe I missed something. Still sounds a few unfair situations will arise regarding the pricy upgrades like for you Brett

I'm thinking the stiff computer compatibility requirements have something to do with the new audio engine. I'm sure it'll work for older computers but won't be officially qualified.

I don't see how a newer laptop would be different, they are all i7s since 2011 at least, with a pretty similar architecture, and the OS is the same, I just think they don't wanna deal themselves with any other generation than the current one, and you can run PT11 on any good enough intel mac

My only gripe with this upgrade is the fact that I bought an educational version of PT9 two years ago, which came with 4 years of free upgrades, but according to that video where they're telling us info directly from avid, apparently I now have to pay for my upgrade. It's still cheap, but kind of irritating.

Wait.... What!?

I purposely bought PT10 Educational Version before I graduated, so I could get the free updates. If this is true, fuck Avid, they will never see my money again.

It was clarified during their webcast. From yesterday forward major upgrades will be for the prices that have been stated. Those of us that bought the edu version with the 4 year agreement will still get our free updates.

Meh...

I might update if I can find a good deal though. Like with how I got PT9; bought an Mbox 2 Mini with PT8 and a crossgrade to PT9, for £299 which was about €350 at the time IIRC. Purposefully skipped 10 because it was such a lame upgrade, but I guess I'm going to need it eventually. Already had hassles with converting PT10 project files to work with my 9.

Yay for 64-bit and offline bounce though, it's been a long time. Maybe next there'll be AU support or something. Similar to how offline bounce was considered completely wild and unnecessary for anything by purist, hardcore Pro Toolers. And now it's just there.

The new metering is PTHD only, I think the low input buffer too (not sure). Then all the differences from 10 to 10HD will probably remain the same (automation, VCA, track counts, etc). But 11 is not out yet, it's just been announced for the coming months, I'm sure the specs will be released then, it's too early for the moment.

I skipped Pro Tools 10 as it didn't offer anything worthwhile for me; but 11 bears serious consideration.

I am however going to have to update all my plugins....

I bought my update from 9 to 10 off Ebay for 275.00 from a dealer called SkitScat. Be careful though because there is one person selling them for like 258.00 and they are not a authorized dealer, even though they claim they are. I already registered and everything worked perfect.

Sorry if i missed this but does anyone know a rough release date?

I SWEAR there was a late-May release date posted when the PT11 info first went up, but it's gone now so Avid might have had second thoughts. Or I'm nuts.

You're not crazy. I saw May 28th at one point. It's all a moving target to be honest. If they do release it in the 2nd quarter it won't necessarily be usable.
