Pro Tools : Catalogs

A question for you Pro Tools users. Do you ever use the catalogs and if so, why and how? Just being curious...

What's catalogs?

digibase and digibase pro are database management tools. using expanded search and import capabilities as well as powerful tools for managing data inside and outside of your session.

the catalog browser is only in pt hd... (digibase pro) ...or in the dv toolkit with le, and is used to personalize your files into folders. you can create folders in the catalog browser of directories that exist in your volumes so that you don't need to keep going in and out of the other browsers.

i use this a lot for post more than music production because with sound editing for film/television/videogames you are left with thousands of audio files that may or may not need to be used in your project.

Never heard of it. The studio I work has PTHD but we've never used it.

I tried to catalog my sound effects library a few times, but it crashed on me everytime. Back when I was on pt7, searching from the workspace was super slow, so I hoped it would speed things up. Since version 8, the search function is fast enough that I haven't bothered to try making a catalog again.
