Pro Tools question (again I know I suck)

Loren Littlejohn

Lover of all boobage.
How do I save presets? The little add/minus boxes (that I assume would save the preset) are faded out! It's because I wanna bounce the track to disc and dump the plugs (but not the settings).

Oh speaking of bouncing, why does pro tools HAVE to bounce in real time, this is so fucking stupid.
is it really? faster than real time bouncing = lower quality rendering. also PT allows you to bounce to disk through external hardware, something lots of other DAW's do not, and that has to take place in real time however you slice it.

but why are you Bouncing just to render some plugs anyway??

just copy your plug setting and open the plug as AudioSuite... paste the setting, then select your track and apply... this happens in seconds. then you can disable or delete the plugs.

you don't normally want to actually bounce anyway because when you bounce the file is altered by the volume of it's track as well as anything on the master buss.

seriously.. just process with AS plugs. This is the way this process is meant to be done. if you need/want to retain the unaltered track, which normally you should, just make a copy of the track prior to processing with AS plugs, and make the unaltered copy inactive so it's not using any resources.

audiosuite sounds different than RTAS and it is faster than realtime

create a new audio track and buss the output of the 1st track

well i have HD3 Accel, and an extremely powerful computer, so maybe it's different in my situation... i have A/B'ed the difference between processing with AS and recording to new track on my system and, at least with the plugs i've checked with, there is no difference.

i've found that compressors will sound different when the audio isn't being processed in real time

I bounced in Nuendo and it was always around 2-3 minutes.

I don't mind it in Pro Tools because at least you can hear the song play back and don't have any whiners asking "Why are we just sitting here?"

Some people have no comprehension when it comes to bouncing their final mix and think they are paying you to sit and stare at the screen for 3 minutes silently doing nothing while the computer is doing the work.....

I guess it's time for another horribly basic question that I must have missed. Is it necessarily true that non-realtime processing will reduce the quality? I'd think that a system with, say, twice the power necessary to handle a track could cut the necessary time in half... but I've been known to expect sillier things.

my personal opinion and experience is that bouncing full mixes sounds best in real time.... but processing individual tracks with certain plugs via AudioSuite can often sound just as good processing in real time. i base this opinion on my own personal experience and nothing more... your experience may be different. i do have a very powerful system though, which if i understood you correctly was what your question was predicated upon.

i gotz me sum vocabuhlareez

This is not the first time I hear about that difference in quality. Offline vs real-time rendering... I don't know. I never really bothered.
I just did a real quick null test without any processing...
No difference. I'm a cubendo user though.
Can someone do it with a complex mix? It should be easy and relevant as long as you avoid any random element (triggering and such)...:)

Ok never mind.
I did it myself.
Guess what... No difference except for the vocals (I used a non synced modulated doubling so it makes sense)...
Discuss...:goggly:
