probably common knowledge already but...

meh... you do realize every 2-guitarist heavy metal band in the world has pulled off stuff like that decently for fucking decades

ask judas priest or iron maiden (pre 2000) fans if they think it sounds like shit when they leave out the rhythm guitar for harmony parts... that's why you have a bass guitar you know!

and yeah, 7 layers, sure, but that's probably two identical layers for each rhythm guitar, left and right = 4 tracks (and these likely play the same thing anyway), and then maybe a three-part harmony or one lead dubbed + harmony

I'm just talking about In Flames, dude. I've seen DT live and they fucking owned it, end of story.

JayK- In Flames never used a 3rd guitarist on stage.

ughhhhhh im just saying that seeing In Flames play stuff from TJR live with one rhythm guitar and one lead does not flob my knob.

fair enough
however!
i submit
for example

"moonshield" from "used and abused"

for the harmony parts (at least the ones that they decide to play) they drop the rhythm guitar and use bass for rhythm... so they DO have two part harmonies. which is the proper way to go, especially as they have overdriven bass

There you go.

What do Maiden do now? They have Gers play the same melody with Smith and let Murray play the harmony, and keep Harris playing the rhythm section right? Gers should at least just play the rhythm along with Harris.
