problem with natural toms of my drum

Just so you know, post these kinds of questions to the Production Tips section.

I can't listen to the clip at the moment, but you can use a noise gate the cut out some of the sustain, or you can manually go in and edit what you don't want out.

Trim out the bleed by hand, put a nice fade on it, and EQ, EQ, EQ...and a bit of compression if you'd like.

On the subject of Moongels, sorry if this is a thread hijacking but it's related... How do some of you guys overcome ignorant drummers that don't want to use them? As in, how do you explain it if they are apprehensive. I have been able to explain it and get my way with every project I have ever done except one.

When getting tones, I don't generally let the drummer get in the way of improving things. I want his input, of course, and I want to make sure he likes what we're doing, but if he is opposed to something that will make the production better and make the record sound better, I just do it, and show him the results. I've never had a drummer say he was opposed to moongels, though.

Yeah I am the same way. I've recorded probably over 150 drummers at this point and like I said only 1 was really apprehensive about it.

Well.... it's not like they hurt the drum in anyway. All I've ever needed to do to convince a drummer is just put a moongel on his snare, have him hit it, and watch the light bulb go on...

And what kind of idiot drummer would refuse to use moongels? If he's that dense, I'd say you probably have bigger issues than sustaining drums....

never had a drummer insist on not using moongels, that is absurd

Yeah, you can imagine how fun he was to work with ;) Ignorance is bliss, as they say.
