I have a problem with cubase, I connected everything right, my computer is recieving a signal, I can teel because the volume bar is moving, my busses are setup correctly, my output bus recognizes my soundcard, a soundblaster audigy, but when I want to play a track back, or want to record the second while the first track runs with it doesn't play any sound?? In the manual is no solution for this.
Anybody some tip or help please??

Hey Koen.. when recording, can you hear the original track? do you hear anything at all then?

If so, press the little recording button that looks like a speaker in the inspector (left) next to the track you want to record..

Is direct monitoring on or off? (devices/device setup/VST multitrack)

Two things:
1. Quite often you'll recall that shit like this is usually some really small problem, something that makes you go "D'oh!"...Double check your connections, all cables are connected, all power plugs in their slots etc. 3/4 odds your problem is there.
2. If 1 doesn't help then I agree with BNB and say it's likely a monitoring issue.

Ok, then we all agree that it is a monitoring problem, but how can I fix that? I cant turn my direct monitoring on or off, it's a grey square

Whilst on this topic, i've a question too. When recording with the cubase program, i can record and play back my sound. But is there a way to monitor and listen to my sound without recording if you understand what i mean, so i can hear the sound the comp is picking up before i record it?

Hope this makes sense!

Yeah, my soundcard passed all the tests cubase did. that's why I don't unbderstand

weird. I wanna know if you can actual play through the speakers on your computer live so to speak to test the sound, as that would be cool. But mine will only work on play back.

I had SX2, now I have SX3. I use direct monitoring because less chance of latency. I honestly can't recall what SX2 looks like when it comes to buttons regarding monitoring. I think mentioned above it's a speaker icon just like in 3. Do you use an input fader and send it to a record track? I'm not too familiar with soundblaster. I assume if you can hear it while recording that your soundbalster is set up for output according to Cubase.

Honestly, if it weren't for firewire, and USB, I'd never get anything set up.

In related news, I can't get Cubase SX to play back my MIDI. Just like your audio. It recognizes it but doesn't record or play back. Good luck to us both.

hi,
i also had problems setting up cubase
the monitor buttons should be off so don't even touch those they are off standard by the way
i don't know but with me the problems were this check under devices / devices set up /vst multitrack / check if your asio is selected right if that's not it
check your vst connections also under devices your card should show up there if not maybe that's the problem
i used an maudio card tho
good luck with it ...

I did all of that before, and cubase runs perfectly, but it just won't play audio back, but wehn i use audio mixdown, and play the mp3, then I can hear it

Okee..

Could you make a snapshot of your audiocard settings within cubase?

Devices//device setup/VST multitrack..

Then press "print screen" on your keyboard.. above "insert", "home" and "page up"...

Then to paint, and in paint press Ctrl+V... save it as a JPG and let us have a look how things are setup over there.. it's so hard to help this way... give it a try... who knows..
