Proco Rat Dist. Pedals?

Been checking them out. Mostly to use with bass, but how do they sound with guitar also?

They sound great on guitar as well. It sounds very thick with a nice dirty edge, definitely great for more raw sounds (more the kind of pedal for use in post rock, grindcore or old school death metal than when you are planning on sounding like one of those millions of in flames/arch enemy clones hehe) . The distortion is pretty dirty and the normal rat already packs tons of it. If possible you can best try to find an older one, as from the two I've had and the ones I've tested I've noticed that the newer ones are unfortunately noisier and sound less alive.

I would have said they're more common with guitars. I've read a bit about people using them to tighten up their amps (like with a TS), too. Or maybe more for coloring the tone...

It's nice to grunge some guitars a bit, like say a verse guitar that plays in the background, some fills here and there etc.. I try to stay low on the gain on this one (which is tricky, since the knobs are almost on/off!). Gets nice and thick.

It's not "modern metal" gain, but Rat + AC30 is full of win.

Trey from Morbid Angel uses a Rat into a JCM 900, so it'll definitely do the old-school DM thing.

I've read the same comments posted by guys on TheGearPage.net. Might be some truth to that. Makes sense to me. Different brand/vendor of parts will change things a little at least.

Can you run the Rat parallel with the Rat and blend them back together before your amp? If you could mix them you ought to get the best of both worlds I'd think.
