Hi guys,

I'm a long time reader of this board now but it's my first post here, as I am amazed nobody yet mentioned Jacob Hansen.Nothing really "surgical" like Andy Sneap work but this guy really has a signature sound that I find particularly interesting.

My top three would be Jacob Hansen, Andy Sneap, Colin Richardson.

Good call on Terry Date... forgot about him. He did Soundgarden and Staind's Dysfunction too, didnt he?

The production you've done here is totally badass! And I still can't get some of these DAATH riffs out of my head. Some of the most infectious metal I've heard in a while.

One more thing...I was reading an interview with Andy where he said a reason he didn't do black metal stuff was because he didn't really like it so much even though he has received many offers in the past (something to that effect I think, please correct me if I misinterpreted). Anyway, Andy and James IMO share a lot of similaries production-wise at least from what I've listened to. And DAATH definitely has some black metal sounding stuff in there, and DAMN does it sound good. See also the song "This Godless Endeavor" toward the end, kind of black-metalish.

My point being that if I had a choice between, say, a night with Scarlet Johansson and hearing a Dimmu Borgir cd produced by Andy, I would actually hesitate and think about it for a second. No offense, I'd definitely take the night with the babe, but there would definitely be a 2nd thought...*wiping drool off face*...It would bring a whole new dimension to a band like Cradle of Filth, don't you think?

BM purists would bash you for calling CoF a BM band... heheh, I just thought I'd add that cuz its funny but...

Andy Sneap could work with Enslaved... and make them the shit, that'd be fuckin cool.

Yeah, but Dimmu Borgir aren't playing black metal anymore. Maybe industrial would be the key word in their music these days. And COF are leaning more towards thrash with their last album. And black metal IMO has always been the kind of music that favours atmosphere over good production.

Oh, and do you knlow what I'd like to hear Andy producing? A Nile album! Those guys play some pretty intesive stuff! Can't wait to hear them live.

Dissection. I still think Storm of the Light's Bane is like, the best album to suffer terribly from shit production.

Well fuck bro! I never was good at labeling bands by their sound. How bout instead of "Black Metal" I mean "panda metal" (haven't seen that term here in a while!). ...Yeah, Kings of the Carnival Creation, yeah, that would sound terrible with andy mixing, yeah bad idea, would hate to have to hear that ;)

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. This might offend some people but the only thing i consider to be "black metal" are theso called "true" black metal bands or the first wave of norwegian black metal and the rest of the scene that copies it. Personally I consider that kind of music crap and I don't believe that 10 worlds top producers combined could do any good with it. The rest is black metal mixed with other kinds of muic whitch is more or less workable with production-wise.

How about Mr Andy Laroque from Los Angered? Probably the nicest producer I've ever worked with

Dunno, his works didn't quite make it productionwise IMO, especially King Diamond stuff.
Too sterile and artificial for me, I wish his POD would disintegrate at last...

Some of the producers I dig except for Andy:
Jim Morris (some of the most natural yet punchy drum and guitar sounds I've ever heard)
Waldemar Sorychta (did a terrific job on Tiamat's Wildhoney, wouldn't know about his other works)
Martin Birch (if nothing - Powerslave :worship: )
Rick Rubin (golden era Slayer)

Terry Date did an amazing job at the time on Prong's "cleansing". I can remember I couldn't believe my ears the first time I heard it.
Andy Wallace is one of my all time favourite producer.
Tomas Skogsberg did something different but very intense in the early 90's (Entombed's first releases). He created the swedish death metal sound.
Colin Ridchardson's work on Carcass, early Machine Head was impressive too.
